What's new

Post up your latest new or used tool purchases

I don’t see one on the one posted but maybe I’m missing it.

It has everything to hook up papr or supplied air. I don't have either of those setups. Im just using regular p100 filters in it.

Yeah, all the gear is hot and miserable outside I don't think this will push the needle to heat stroke.

Years ago I had a rechargeable battery operated cooling fan on my miller welding helmet. It moved a slight breeze inside the helmet and while it wasn’t huge noticeable until the battery died, then you definitely felt the difference without it.

Batteries are probably bad now

I bought some Machinest tooling today from a guy off of FB MP

Started out wanting to buy a full set of hand reamers as I have a few of ball ones.

While I was there, I found out that he had already sold off most all of his machine shop equipment he had in his garage shop. But he still had a bunch of left over items that I was interested in.

I bought a new 0-1/2” USA made Jacob’s chuck, a big brass hammer, a bunch of end mill bits, index bits and holders, couple boring bars, set of new sterett center punches, counter sink bits, a retirement light fixture in excellent condition, an mill arober dial indicator holder, bunch of misc drill bits, mill draw bar and bolt for the mill shaper attachment I don’t have and a free home made 12” disc sander stand that needs a motor and disc to be complete. Not bad for $150 imo.

Picked up this set of old style 1980’s vintage snap on torx screw drivers for $10.

I bought the dividers, clamps and auto center punch for $10 too

A nice bolt bin off marketplace for $50.

I got several of those given to me several years ago :flipoff2:

But really, you did good I think that’s a very fair price for one of these. I use one of mine to hold odd things like clevises, bushings, springs etc etc

I had a tough time finding one under $200 here in central FL, and that's just the bin, no bolts included. It's definitely been one of my favorite additions to the garage though

Ive needed a rotary hammer many times in the last few months. Looked for used but couldn’t find a good one. Finally bought the HF Hercules 1-9/16 SDS MAX one. It was on sale for inside track members. Bought the shovel bit to do fence posts in my side yard. Haven’t used it yet

I've seen a few come up locally and they want $200 to $500 (or more) for them, either empty or with a rusted assortment of crap in them.

I've even seen a couple like this come up, but they want $1000+ for them.

I had two of those given to me too but sold them off. They’re fine for large shops that use big hardware but useless beyond that. If you do get one, set it up on HD steel caster wheels.

Thats nothing but a dust and junk collector. Normal bolt bins are bad enough:laughing:

x2 on not liking that style.

I don't see the value over literally any sort of proper cabinet unless you're one of those wierdos that needs all your shit to be visible or you forget what you got and where it is.

Math is hard huh? It makes you x3 not x2 :flipoff2:

shit like this makes more sense to me

one of those whirlybirds woulda been pretty nice at the last shop though
I have two huge brass fittings (brake line type stuff) old commercial organizers, I use them for nuts and bolts plus other things like grease fittings cotter pins etc.

I labeled the drawers and loaded them up with bulk new grade 8 bolts and nuts. 1/4” - 1/2”. The other organizer I have around 8 plus drawers loaded with mostly npt and the other thread option brass fittings. Going to load it with bulk SS hardware I have and bulk metric new hardware like I did with the grade 8 stuff.

Buying hardware in bulk and setting it up like I have it is the best thing I’ve done with that stuff. Its so nice to be able to grab the right sized bolts and nuts for a fab job I’m working on.

$100, I feel this was a pretty good deal on an extended one. Been needing one on way too many occasions.

What’s the advantage of having a deep throat die grinder? You work on a lot of stuff with deep holes or?

Dynabrade is good stuff. $$ though.
I bought one of these around 7 years ago off of eBay for around $500. My buddy wanted one after I bragged about it and it’s over $800 now

I have the twist lock back pad style and love it. I used one at a welding job I had back then so I had time to use one before buying it. The sanding grit pads I use are mostly 6” grit and they grind things like welds you want smoothed out pretty fast. I love them better than grinding wheels. The pads are 3M brand and expensive too. Hard to find them cheap. But I go to the same guy that supplied that company I worked for at the time. I have finer grit and scotch bright type pads for it too but the 60 grit is used the most

I guess there are cheaper type air tools like it out there but I didn’t want to be disappointed trying one of those out.

Some areas that are hard to reach, but the extended version gives you more leverage/control even in easy to reach areas. Mostly bought it for rotary file use.

Picked up a Dynabrade side grinder for $15 from the TSA confiscations pile.

I’ve used one of those and they are bad ass.

What’s the TSA confiscation deal with something like that? How do you find something like that? Website?
