Pick an engine, 66 Fairlane edition

If you decide to get jiggy with it, that Jag motor is mine. Came out of a running XJ6 SIII VDP and has been in climate-controlled dry storage forever (with lube atop the cylinder bores). I have all of the bracketry, etc. as well.
Why on earth would you purposely swap a jag motor into anything?

OP, I was going to suggest doing the same thing the one guy did with the other old car until I realized you were that same guy. :homer:

There used to be a guy that had a 18' Cole runner bottom with a Jag v-12, with 6 Weber two barrels and two 6 into one headers. It wasn't as fast as some of the other boats on the river, but damn did that thing sound awesome.

He said he wants a modernish head. Yes, there is an ls based crossflow close to being released, but who knows how long

I say a
5.7 vortec
big block ford with trickflows
7.3 powerstroke
7.3 gas
6.9 idi turbo

I was thinking the same thing. That pile of shit Jag motor makes less power than the engine the car came with in 1966. The only thing I would put a jag motor in is a dumpster.
Im genuinely curious with hints of sarcasm. :homer:

It's not a huge engine bay, we have a 67 fairlane ranchero with a 289 c4. F a mod motor, too wide. Maybe if you did a tubular subframe and all that.

I was going to say m57 bmw but then you said no diesel....

Then I saw you said bmw gas. They have a ton of potential and the engine bay is kinda made for it, that'd be badass

The 3.7 6 speed is a cool idea that would make a nice driver for relatively cheap. I put a clutch in one for a guy and on my test drive I was pretty impressed, even did a little window shopping afterwards
Hopefully before I die I can swap a m57 into something. That thing is a bad ass little engine.

300 I6 with a snail.

Is that their 2nd build or their first?

Their first build of one of those was shit. Way too much turbo for the rest of the build and it was just starting to come on when the engine was out of breath.

Then they did the Jeep, realized they were idiots and said they wanted to re-do the 300. IDK if they ever got around to it...

I've got a K member and SN95 front suspension/brakes/etc for it. Already started chassis work on it with subframe connectors and whatnot

Talk me out of a mod motor though. They are plentiful and aside from the size why not?

Can't really. Saw somebody that used a 4.6 with Cobra drop in rods and pistons and single on3 turbo kit. That thing was hurting some feelings. Nobody ever expects a Ford in a Ford anymore and nobody expects a non 03-04 Cobra engine to be fast. So there's that

But my heart says turbo 300I6 like everybody else. Paint that baby shit brown with some yellow stripes because its gonna sound like a pissed off UPS truck but with turbah noises :smokin:

A mild built 5.0 with an S-trim charger on 7 to 10 pounds of boost with a T-5 would scoot you down the road nicely.

Unless you just want to get stupid....which would get my vote. :flipoff2:

That cars just screams for a 385 series motor.
Love the 429

But I don’t think it will fit but it might

How bought a 1UZ Toyota V-8 ?

I’d just go with a 351 Windsor and use the factory EFI

The ford EFI from 88-96 is way way easier and more reliable than any aftermarket shit

I have the factory efi on my early bronco and the Holly sniper on the 65 falcon
And the Holly sniper is a total piece of shit .

Costa a ton of money and Never ever works right .

The 91 mustang factory efi on my bronco has never had any problems .
Always cranks , and it will run with every sensor unplugged and the upper intake and half the injectors removed .

I know because I was swapping injectors and bumped the starter and the damn thing actually cranked and ran on four cylinders with no Mass air meter .

A 460 will fit without cutting, but it's a tight squeeze. Need to get creative for exhaust. I think headers for a 70-71 Torino will work. Motor mounts from Crites Restoration. Factory big block cars had a reinforcing plate at the upper control arm mount.

Slap a tesla drivetrain in the ass for rwd. stack the batteries in the truck. Then toss a 460 under the hood with one cylinder head and the intake still bolted to it. Let it weather and drive it to shows with the hood up.

Sit back and watch the head scratching wonder in how it got there to the show

Engines id look at would be the godzilla or an older V10.
Me and a buddy wanted to do this to a car. Swap in a full AWD drive train and enough external speakers to mess with people. We thought it would be fun to pull into a burnout competition with it burn the back tires with the speakers on, then just cut them off randomly to mess with people. Then do it over again with the front tires.

I mean the car we wanted to do it with was a Corvair, but it would be cool to do it with a fairlane too.

IIRC, there was a one year California (1995) EFI that was OBD1 and mass air. Worked well with cam and head swaps, should do well in boost as well.

Tuned Subaru STI 2.5 flat 4 with a front mount intercooler. Weld the center diff in the stock transmission..................

................ I'll see myself out now before the beating starts.

I'm going to do it eventually. I really want to do an old pre plastic bumper MG or spitfire but im 6'3 so it would be useless for me.:shaking:I have my eye on something else thats later and has room though. I'd just need the body, build a chassis from 2" chromo tube and set the body onto it. Meh, thats at least 8-10 years away if im still alive and kickin

I like the idea of a turbocharged inline 6 but stay away from BMW unless you're willing to pay the "BMW Tax" on virtually every part you buy.

Thanks for all the replies so far, I’ll try and respond individually when I’ve got more time.

I’ll have a bit more room than stock since I’m going foxbody/sn95 struts and getting rid of the factory strut towers.

The SBF 5.0/351 is definitely the easy button. I’ve got a buddy with a couple sbf T5’s already. If I went that route I’d shoot for a roller 351 out of a 90s truck. Again not worried about stock computers, I wired and tuned my last car with megasquirt so that’s going to happen again regardless

They made several years with a OBD 1 and mass air I think

Mine is a 89 or 90 mustang and it has mass air .
The pickups had speed density .
