Panzers: I break rocks thread

had to youtube a walking floor trailer.

neat.
Never seen one of those.
All the slats move forward then 1/3 at a time reverse so the load doesn’t move. Then they repeat hence it walks the material out the back .

walking floor, i keep forgetting the name. first one i've seen or worked on.

yeah a big bend in the floor, they said it still worked to unload. guess it looked alot worse entil they got it unloaded. to the brim with wet compost, think he said 100yds. i'm going to have to replace about 12' of the frame there and fit some new aluminum side panels. going to be a few weeks before i get to tear it apart.
100 ton. You're not fitting 100 yards in there.

nope yards. They can get 100 yards of trash or mulch in those things. 8x9x40’ = 106 yards of space. Still can only haul 17 yards of gravel because it is too heavy.
I stand corrected. Didn't math.

Dirtwork guy, not used to figuring on hauling mulch.

Moar shartcar.

Yeah, he said they are only supposed to fill it half way when it's wet material. Since they were just moving it across their yard the operator decided to send it.

I'm not sure what those trailers go for but I told the owner the repair will be around 10k maybe as much as 15k. He seemed fine with the cost. Got to get his loader going and some work at the gravel pit done first though. There is just nobody around here that does this work. The last bucket I told the gravel pit I wasn't interested in freshing up, they trucked it about 5hrs south, To get the work done.

What kind of gravel pit is this that doesn’t have someone on staff to do that. Must be the kind that makes more money than they know what to do with. :lmao:

Just about got the bay cleaned out. Need to finish up that loader and it will be done. The cat guys started bringing tool boxes down. Kinda sad but I like cash especially in the winter time. I have a feeling they are gonna rent this bay from me until corporate gets pissed and lets them add on to the shop in town.

Nah just 2 wheel borrows a day or so not bad.
That's about what I burn in the "boiler" in the house when its cold out (granted, its a steel cube with an L shaped tank on top of it), we have a "Uboat cart" that is about 5' wide and we fill it to 4' high and it lasts about a day or a day and a half.

Lakeside Industries. can look them up, they are big.

pretty much, they should but flat out cant find anyone worth a shit. they have tried to get me but i dont work well as an employee. not to mention the couple weeks a year i spend on their stuff pays me almost what starting salary would be.

they are a union outfit, the biggest asphalt contractor in the state i believe. they attract the type of worker that likes to work allot or be laid off and collect unemployment,

when i first started out i built them two rock grizzlies. the insane profit on those really helped me to get biz rolling. they where bid jobs, and i was the lowest bidder. i was also able to clear a little over 15k/wk in profit the 2wks it took. also really helped i had a guy that knew what i should be charging.

He lives on an island. They probably sell crushed stone for rich people's driveways at 10x your profit margin. The town buys road base at any price they name. They DGAF. Having a monopoly is nice like that.

I had to laugh a scraper was supposed to be hauled down today. When the trucker drive it up over the tires it broke the tubes off the trailer. I was teasing the cat guy he should have just drove it down to the pit. It’s only 7 miles away. :lmao:

I had to do the 3 day new miner at red dog mine in bfe ak last week just so I could go outside and measure some plow trucks for a few hours before the plane left on day 4. I now understand your hatred of msha :lmao:

I did get some cool pictures though, biggest zinc mine in the world. They were relining? one of the jaw crushers, fuckers 8 stories tall.

When I got into mining I did 40 hour new hire in January and refresher in February to get on track with everyone else. During my refresher an old timer told me it's the longest day of the year in mining. I have to refresh in March, they ship us to town for the day which is kinda nice. Knowing where my original 5000-23 and refresher paper work has come in handy.

I know red dog is hiring mechanics/ millwrights. They pay extremely well though the BS level is up there along with the cold. Having to go through MSHA to get measurements seems a little excessive, usually a contractor can get away without it if they have supervision though I could be wrong. I know there's some rule about if a guy has surface MSHA he can work underground for 40 hours with supervision before needing underground MSHA.

I love this thread, watching an owner operator who actually has to care about costs make it work is awesome. We piss away so much money where I work it's mind boggling.

Do you run any pioneer pumps? If so I'm curious what you think about them. We have 2 with vacuum priming pumps because an engineer didn't want to make a dam wall 4' taller.

No pioneer pumps. All Berkeley with foot valves for the high pressure stuff. Self priming (wacker and an unknown) pumps for the dewatering/filling ponds. A few Godwin, atlas copco, and Munro submersibles. I do not have any vaccum priming pumps so I really don’t have an opinion of them.

the yuppies dont have crushed stone drives. and you dont want to know what concrete work goes for here. we got 70yo guys coming out of retirement its so dumb.

we have bridges, so most prices aren't too stupid. Not like ferry ride islands. (and the ferries are fucked, i use a landing craft transporter for all my off island jobs)

the crush stone and such isn't overpriced (relativly). there is really good stone everywhere here (the stone is barged up and down the west coast as breakwater rock. like one, maybe two stones on each semi as it heads to the dock to barge load), and lots of big and small pits. buddy charges around 375$ (10-12yds i think) a load for 1-1/4 minus crush, only thing i can remember buying. but here- the labor, any skilled labor is impossible/ expensive to find. its the land of yuppies. i'm only 'okay' at what i do given most of the talent on this board, and manage alright.

job i finished today i quoted at 10k, then 6wks later called them and said sorry i cant, there is heavy work i need to do to keep the other trades working. their responce was 'just keep it under 20k and we hope you can get it done this year'. that was last year:lmao: and this was a handrail... i'm always way behind on residential stuff.

i know, of/ work for, 4 gc's now that live in Idaho/ montana, but still come back 1-3wks a month. their good jobs are here, but over there is where they will retire. the types of jobs that will wait 10-14months for me to do fire place accents.

i dont think the union pit makes a ton of money. alot of what they blast and crush is on city land know, and all of that has its price. i imagine its mostly a location that maintains and is a home base for all the work in the area. when they do big blasts and crush, they will bring in guys from pits up to 4hr away and per diem pay. run 2shifts for 2-3months at a time. in that period the crusher company will go thru 3-6 sets of cones. fucker charges me 1k a set used.

you could buy new ones at 4500-5000 a piece:lmao:

i've thought about looking into buying smaller ones new. (even buying an alibaba container of the similar look) all i can get my hands on are the ones he uses and they are around 4-5' across. the yuppies would like a little smaller.

i just put together some fire pit pics for a customers so i've got pics handy

and yuppie install;

even put propane burners in a bunch of them. last fire pit install had gas infared heaters surrounding the wood fired pit.

these are the type of things that homeowners want around here. try to keep the working people working first, and yuppie things after if there is time.

They seemed to be really hit or miss on who can go where depending on who's making the arrangements. We had two guys out there to train the surface crew on an oshkosh blower we sold them and nothing, but I had to sit through the class. Even the NANA service employees who outnumber teck can't go outside or past the double doors to the main facilities (all connected by skywalk type things), and it's their land and I assume minerals :homer:
