Have any of you guys used one of these cheap night vision gadgets on a rifle to shoot vermits.

I have to get some parts to line up the camera with the red dot. I’m shooting **** getting my chickens.

Have any of you done this successfully? Or is the whole thing going to break on the first shoot?

it's probably fine.

the IR stuff is pretty good and cheap these days. If you are looking at just a specific area, like the chicken shack or whatever, it's probably worth it to toss a IR flood light out there as well

I started with one of those. It worked pretty good, with the right light you could see out about 400yds with it. But the focus through the scope sucked (it's an IR camera thing). You couldn't get the picture AND reticle clear, and distance would change the clarity. I've got some videos of it in action somewhere, dropping Coyote and Fox. I upgraded to a sightmark wraith 4k now.

digital night vision works.
it probably needs an IR light to work well.
It came with the IR flashlight you see on the gun. The clamp sucks. I need to get a picatinny clamp for it. When you turn on the light it looks bright as hell on the screen. Almost too bright. It does have a small red light in the middle that someone could see if they looked at it. But an animal would probably not notice.

I’m only thinking of shooting 50 feet, so no magnifying at all. Just the red dot.

Awesome and great price point.

Super fast shipping.

One thing about the Wraith if you do get one. The IR light has an adjustable pattern and needed to be aimed also. If you don't do this the picture is not good.

With the IR light aimed and pattern set to spot not flood the picture is awesome!

I'm kind of interested in this myself. I already have scopes set up the way I want.
The damn clip ons are so expensive.

Next question. When I first got the red dot, I mounted it as far back as the picatinny rail permitted. I have a quick disconnect picatinny spacer coming to line up the camera to the red dot. But I will have to move the red dot forward to mount the camera. I don’t want to keep the night vision on the gun, but I don’t want to move / zero the red dot every time I mount the NV. Is there any reason I shouldn’t leave it in the forward location?

Thanks a lot ****o! :flipoff2: I just dropped $450 with Midway for one. We'll see how it does.

As I recall, you are a real long distance shooter. What are you planning for distance on this? Just for clarity, what exactly did you drop $450 on? I would very much like a review on here or other thread.

Yes I shoot long distance, but I want this for a Yote now and then that shows up on my property. Shooting suppressed .223 55g varmint bullets at something over 3200 FPS should do the job.

You're welcome? :flipoff2: . The light that comes with it runs a stupid cr123? Battery, and output kinda sucks. I'm actually running the cheap ir light that came with the Chinese clip on unit (under the barrel to prevent haze when firing). I can id a fox at 500yds with it. Look up sniper hog lights if you want to be bougie, I have the coyote cannon with a red chip. I was looking at getting one of their smaller units with an IR chip though. OH, pro tip.... The wraith will auto adjust brightness, so if you're trying to look beside a bright colored building or object, you'll have to learn to play with it too get it to settle down. I'll try and dig up a few videos and report back here with them...

Edit: Not sure if this will work....

215yds

I'm running it on a 22-250, vmax rounds. Yes, the reticle is off in that video...I have no idea why... It was dead nuts where it belonged in real life

Well it came in today, and I'm already looking for a rechargeable battery for the illuminator. The 18650 is physically too big and the 16650 is only 3.7v and it's looking for 6v, any options you've run across that will work, or should I just bite the bullet and get the coyote cannon?

Following. Been wanting to pick up a .30cal PCP air rifle and some sort of "night vision" scope for popping varmits quietly at night where I am currently living. Looks like that Wraith HD fits the bill.

I did find some rechargeable cr123a batteries, but never pursued it. I just run the Chinese light under my barrel, which actually has a better output. The coyote cannon is going to be way overkill and heavy as hell for what you're doing though, look into their smaller lights and look at all of the specs and recommendations that they give(great company to work with. With IR (like the wraith),a brighter light is not going to give you a brighter picture at close distances. It's just going to give you a longer range of brightness because the scope auto adjusts the brightness. So a cutie cannon with an IR chip at 50 yards will look no brighter than the light you currently have.... But I believe they claim up to a mile of visibility with it, which obviously won't happen with your current light.... But that's an unusable distance for most people unless you're hunting the desert (I'm on the east coast, we don't have that range here).

The scope is heavy as fawk as it is, you don't need a coyote cannon on it as well... You will regret it. Though it is a GREAT red light for scanning.

I've got the ATN X-sight 4 IR setup with all the bells and whistles. It has all kinds of feature like 10 second before to 20 second after shot video, 5 gun profile so you can switch it from gun to gun, takes temp, wind direction and speed, elevation, barometer, bullet specs, etc, and does automatic zero, no hold overs. With their app you can also set it up and watch the screen on your phone, I don't do it because it relies on geosynching, heard that was bad....lol

It works pretty good and is reasonable for the base model. Get's a bit more expensive dressing them out to their max. Only thing I don't like is the weight and size which they addressed with the 5 series which has the range finder incorporated into the unit. I think their having some bugs right now so I'd wait until they work that out.

P.S. Great Customer service, had some questions, ended up getting free t-shirts and free shade cover.

No kidding about the weight, I run Razor HD's on a couple rifles and with mount they're over 4lbs, but this thing is a tank. I guess it doesn't matter if you're up on a tripod and calling them in. Still a pretty cool piece, I'll fire it up tonight.

I have the wraith 4k mini on a 300bo and have been very happy with it so far.
I would be pretty carry of mounting one on anything bigger than a 223 ish platform. Night vision setups just aren't built to take the recoil of larger rounds.
I'm curious to see how they hold up to airguns and their "unique" recoil that can destroy some optics.
Waterhouse, fix your coupe, and good luck getting the varmints. Even if you take them out more will show up.

The coop is OK, but my wife never shuts the door. Some of our chickens sleep in the trees. Frankly I’m surprised we havnt had more problems. I think our dogs scent is all around helps. I killed two possums in the last couple days. (Without the NV)

Edit, someone told me turkeys will protect chickens. I have to wild turkeys that have been living with my chickens for over a year now. Has anybody else heard of this?

PCP so no weird recoil. The springer gun I have has to have a special scope due to the back and forth recoil, but my Benjamin Marauder is pre charged pneumatic and has recoil like a powder burner, just not near as much. The .30cal I'm looking into is also PCP and that is what the Wraith would go on.

I saw a lot of people having trouble with the 4k vs the standard HD wraith in reviews. The 4k would be nice for sure. I want that Arken, but its 6-8 weeks so I will probably buy a Wraith HD for now and get the Arken later. Also so lots of people having trouble with that ATN scope...

Euro optic has wraith HD on sale as a demo model for cheap.

I grew tired of waiting for RD's review of this optic:flipoff2:. I ordered one from this link Saturday and received it today. On my initial review I'm impressed. Good clarity during the day and is easy to use with a brief review of the instructions. I ran it on a .300 blk out. only shot a few times. Mainly checking out clarity. The eye box is very small and would recommend a monocular or helmet mounted night vision for scanning if hunting, I was able to find my mules fairly easy at night behind my house at night at around 100 -125 yards. Out further would probably be easier due to eye glare. Overall, my initial review is that it works very good for the money. Defiantly some messing around with the ir light to get the best picture. Most glass I put on rifles is in the 1000- 2500-dollar range. So not the best for the best but really good. Just my opinion for anyone thinking about it.
