What's new

micro pistols

I'm in the same boat.

And agree the optic side is a non issue with concealing. I quit caring for the most part. Dots are not huge. Well the shielded ones are pretty chonky.

I woudnt go putting a leupold delta point or a big holosun on a tiny pistol. But a smaller dot fits nice on them.

to that point, a half or 3/4 on top of the slide isn't going to be a problem.

a full sized grip is since it sticks out passed my hip.
140lbs, 6'ish

took two solid years for the guy that works in the bay next to me to notice the g20 I used to carry

Two average size dudes on my team might or might not be packing heat on any given day. We joke that the large lady on our team has them outgunned twice over. She might. She might not. We don't know.

The reasons to carry a micro are comfort and concealment, correct? Why would you red dot a micro? Maybe a grip laser sight if anything.

I rarely actually look down my sights with a pistol. Point and shoot is how you should be training, so you get good enough you don't need sights to hit center mass or head shots from 15'.
Thank
You

So tape off the sights and shoot the protocol for your ccw till you can pass it...
Now go stull more junk on your weapons

A red dot on a pistol is the reason Elijah Dickens put 8 shots in a murderer 40 yards away from him at a mall in Texas. They DO have their place. Obviously they are not for everyone but if it helps someone to shoot better I’m all for it. The more people out there carrying the better. It’s all about training. You can have the best gear in the world but if you don’t train you will get yourself killed when it matters most. I’ve been doing the same pistol drills since 1999. I still do the same drills at least twice a month to make sure I stay proficient. What’s the saying, when you need a cop you won’t be able to find one. Again, training is key to survival in a gun fight.

Thats stretching things a bit. Not going to make that many shots in a situation like that without having some skills

Those shots are easily repeatable. You just have to train. I’ve done 50 yard shots but it’s not easy. Stress is a bitch. Plenty of people out there carrying a gun that couldn’t shoot themselves out of a locked bathroom.

I am very aware of that....Was directed more towards the "A red dot on a pistol is the reason Elijah Dickens put 8 shots in a murderer 40 yards away"

While a red dot is kinda the easy button. A shot like that with sights isnt that big of deal. Just have to put in the trigger time. Which he obviously did:beer:

Just always amused me, when somebody spouts off about a leo and his opinion. Dude is paid to look at a laptop while driving and give tickets for talking on a cell phone:homer:

Mag dump on somebody or something and instant paid time off:homer:

Yet his opinion matters:lmao:

My ccw is for defensive purposes. A red dot slows down your first shot unless you train with it a lot on a pistol. Not going to argue that they will improve accuracy for most shooters.
I want my defensive handgun to be quick to draw, sight and shoot with acceptable accuracy (stop the threat).
Not to take away from what the guy did at the mall in Texas, but it wasn't a defensive shooting. He probably would have been charged in Komiefornia or new Yuk.

Its a training thing...like always.. a red dot shows yer flaws right now! Lol more practice!!!

Both eyes open and the dot is just inline all of a sudden.

Doctors, cops, and lawyers have the good tv shows, so everybody should listen to them.

I ordered a red dot off Amazon, going to put it on something this weekend. Never had one on a pistol before. Somebody explain to me how looking at a dot is slower than looking at my front sight. I had one on a Marlin camp45 and one on a Ruger .44 carbine and thought they were both pretty quick.

Both eyes open and on the target, bring the dot into view......if your grip is fucked up you will have a hard time finding the thing..........

If it's not a decent quality red dot, your pistol's slide will beat it to death.
If the dot does not initially come right into your field of view when you bring the pistol up then you will have to "find" the dot, by moving either the gun or your head-eyes. For me this is an issue. I bring up an "iron sighted pistol, the sights are right there for me and depending on the target-distance I'm able to get my first rounds off relatively quickly.
I have not put multiple thousands of rounds through a pistol with a red dot. Once I have acquired the dot I can make consistent accurate quick shots, but as soon as I bring the pistol down, I am finding the dot again. This is a pretty common thing.
This is not an issue at all for me on rifles. the dot is right in my field of view and just needs to be placed on target.
As Ive said before, carry what you can afford and fits your needs. If we all had exactly the same thing, how boring would that be?
A Pistol with a red dot on the slide will always take up more space than the same pistol with iron sights. It also limits your holster options.

I installed suppressor height sights on my edc to overcome that "initial alignment" issue with the RMR (the sights co-witness well). And practicing with both eyes open does help. I also have light on it that helps with muzzle jump a little bit too (aids in target re-aquisition) but really limits holster options. Practice, practice, practice...
