What's new

Looking for a new coyote gun help me pick.

don't they break AR bolts when loaded to full pressure?
I'm shooting factory loaded Hornady 123gr SST, running a ToolCraft BCG and have about 1000 rds through it with zero issues.

This Benchmark blank will become a 22 Creedmoor for a Lone Peak Fuzion. It’ll be used with thermal and a suppressor for coyote duty.

Why is 5/8x24 the go to threading on the .22 creedmoor? Its a .22, so I would think 1/2” would be more common but all the profits I’ve looked at default to 5/8”.

scuttlebutt is that american grendel is loaded light
how flat do the primers get?

thought we were talking about 'flatter shooting than 223'
so why not wring out all the beer that got spilled in the carpet instead of just some small portion of it?

You could. I just dont think you will ever get it out of a 6.5 grendel. A smaller bullet, it might be kinda cool though.

5/8-24 is by far the most common for bolt actions. Rimfires and ARs, sure, 1/2-28 is more common.

They can. I carry an extra bolt for my 6 ARC, due to the same problem. No breakage yet, but the lugs are attached to a very thin wall to accommodate the larger diameter of the case.

Several of the guys I shoot "Accurized AR" matches with, (PRS style stages but with gas guns), are using 6ARC, including myself. Typically we use 105 Bergers or 108 Hornaday ELD-M's, but the guys that are hunting yotes are using 87 or lighter and they say that they knock down the animals no problem out to 400yds. Another guy that I shoot with and who is also a smith, built a bolt gun for his 13yo daughter for PRS comps, she's under 100bs soaking wet, so getting a low recoil cartridge was very important, and she does well considering this is only her second season.

The only coyote that I have ever shot was with a .257 Weatherby.
Was doing hunter sight in at the club years ago and had a guy come through with one...at the time, had never see a .257...impressive, but even 10 years ago it was like $100 for a box of 20

Was gonna ask your opinion of 6ARC...been wanting to do another build in something other than 5.56...been toying with that, or 6x45...

The big advantage of 6ARC over .223 is past 700. My 105g Berger Hybrid AR load has the same amount of drop at 1k as my 147g 6.5CM bolt gun. Neither is loaded especially hot. I'm running a 22" Shaw barrel.

I know a guy that is going to build a 22ARC, but it's not done yet.

or 6x45...
read about that a long time ago, back when it was all on dead trees lol
problem with it is that you end up with the neck on the ogive of any midrange or heavier bullet

220 russian too normie of an option for him?
I think there’s room to go faster
more barrel length is free speed though
quieter, too
"it's free real estate"

Too Russian. I don't know about the shoulder angle, maybe it's better with ARC, or it's the whole 6.5 Creedmoor is the bestest ever, while over in the corner .260 Rem quietly raises it's hand.

Most of the top level PRS guys are trying to stay near the low 2700's, (me too), due to vastly improved barrel life, and a better ability to see trace and impacts. In my club matches we coach each other, "Low, low-right, come up half target" that sort of thing, but in a real national match you can only say, "Impact", or nothing.

Already too long with the suppressor on the end.

rifles with 24" barrels should come with a free hacksaw
Blasphemy.

Different tools for different jobs. I haven't hunted deer or elk in a long time, gave up trying to get tags here in AZ, but if I did pull tags, I'd put my 6.5 CM Tikka T3 CTR back in it's stock, attach a lightweight sling and go with a lighter scope. As it sits now it's got a 24" barrel with a can on it, a heavy-ass Vortex Razor scope and in a KRG chassis, probably 17-18 lbs, while if I put it back into the stock and with a MK5HD it would be more like 11-12. Makes a difference humping it over hills, but not in a PRS match.
