Same level here. This one’s no good, at least at the base.

Drug it down the hill with the loader.

Cut it into 12’ lengths to get it out of my way. I thought it would go in the burn pile, but I got someone that wants it cut to firewood length and brought to her. She loves cedar, so doesn’t care about the holes. I imagine they’ll toss the bad stuff when they split it, dunno.

HE SAID ITS VERY LOUD IN HERE.

:flipoff2:

I love the 2 stroke detroits. Turning dinosaur squeezings into noise with a horsepower byproduct or over 50 years. :cool2: Great thread.
:lmao:

Exactly, the sound of that Detroit. Whats the operating costs of such equipment vs what you get out of it at your property. I.e. has it been that beneficial to make it worthwhile after repairs/diesel costs?

So what exactly are you doing there when "raking" the forest? Just cleaning up the detritus to reduce risk of fire spread?

Don’t forget, there is a lot of value in the satisfaction of doing something yourself. New skills and knowledge. As well as being out in nature (even if you’re crushing it)

Fixing it up is its own reward, the fact you can use it around that yard is a bonus!
Great points.

I was mainly thinking about part and operations costs for something that big.

I'd talk to your landscaper friend a bit. Some of them yard nerds pay good money to have a big ass stupid rock in their yard. Might sell for more n you think

Already on it. He didn’t know of a current need, but told me to contact companies that move them. Three calls yesterday to places that sell them, 2 weren’t interested. The other wanted all the information, and is thinking about it. He made me name a price, I’m used to companies telling me what they pay. Take it or leave it. I told him 80 dollars per ton if he comes and gets it. Landscaper friend said a customer will pay 350-500 per ton to have a rock placed in their yard. The place I talked to shows much much smaller rocks for sale at $129 per ton. Different type of stone, it’s more brown. And I’m thinking larger rocks might bring more per ton, dunno.

Yes. The place is a tinder box, we are reducing fire hazard. We’ve had wildfires kinda near us three times in the last four years, it’s nerve wracking. I won’t do the whole 20 acres that way, but the immediate area we are. What you saw was after pulling many fallen trees out of there. We’ve been steadily hauling firewood rounds away the whole time. When we go to the local store we drag the trailer with us. We barter with them, no money changes hands. They split it and sell it to campers. It’s a good deal for us, it saves us expenses. And we get rid of the wood.

Run over some tree huggin hippies and that'd be the highlight of my year.

Speaking of hippies, one of them pushed a bill that would turn the National Forest my property is in into a National Monument with same status as National Parks. They call their organization Unite The Parks, they’re referencing Yosemite and Kings Canyon. The new monument would be called The range of light. The whole premise is flawed. They claim to be protecting the forest, but they’re pushing the same flawed policies that has destroyed millions of acres of forest, by putting out fires, and not allowing any mechanical thinning. That puts so much fuel load on the Forest that when it does burn, there’s not much that can be done about it. Locals are doing all they can to prevent it, calling it insanity. County supervisors from three counties wrote a letter describing how the proposal would do the opposite of protecting the forest, one thing they pointed out is how the National Parks that have had that “protection” for over a hundred years are currently on fire. The woman that wrote it made a misleading proposal, it’s all distorted. It includes pictures of her at lakes in already protected “wilderness”, as if to say the proposal would protect that lake. This would shut down the many 4WD trails on the Forest, we have some good ones. The people that have gone to her page and commented against the proposal have all been blocked.
