Libertarian litmus test: Should tips be taxed?

Should tips be taxed? (fuck yo bacon request)

First off taxation is theft but I voted yes tips should be taxed as income due to only getting the tips thru employment.

This subject came up at lunch.

What about strippers? In some places the strippers pay to work there and their entire income is tips. Should they get tax free income? Well yes, but that’s only because we all should. If we all don’t get it, I think we all should pay tax.
Instead of asking "Hey why isn't that person getting whipped by the slave master and we are, they should be whipped like us" should be asking "why the fuck are we are slaves, fuck these people!!"

Voteing on how much people should get stolen from them is immoral.

or are you gonna oppose it since most of you are 'tipping' the blue haired barista who's pronouns are [zhe/zim]?
Hold up.

You think these people tip the fags, and the hope it gets taxed?
If that's what you think of them, why not simply assume they just won't tip at all?

it is income so I vote to tax it. fix the problem
pay the worker an appropriate wage for the job.
I hate the tipping culture, ban it.

for those that say it is for service above and beyond, that's bullshit.
it is expected for any sit-down food service.
if at a fancy restaurant and someone does not leave a tip, I guarantee the server is not saying "what could I have done better"?
they are saying that customer sucks and is a cheap bastard. it is expected.

pay them for the job and pay them fair.
want a tip? get it from your employer. they are the ones that really should care how well you do at your job.

I see waitresses chase customers out to the parking lot to confront them about no tip. Fuck them

I've always looked at tipping like commission. I actually don't mind that service people in sectors that have a tipping culture are paid less. Tips incentivize hustlers.

Agreed, but... I'm no world traveler, but those who are tell me that you typically get better service in the US than similar places you visit elsewhere.
The best service I’ve ever witnessed was in Australia. They didn’t fuck around.

Nah, most service industry don't have a base pay. Tips are their income.

You can't read apparently.

I live where they are required by the state law to make minimum wage. Not a server wage, but the exact same minimum that any other business is held to.

I'm all for hiding every cent from our government that loves to spend money like it's water and has ruined our economy while still dumping our tax dollars on the 3rd world to buy friends.

So I'm going to treat tips like they're a gift, and neither party needs to pay taxes until they go over $17k/yr.... :flipoff2:

Gifts should not be taxed, this is why I tip in cash.
You have to tip in cash in CA. The state taxes servers (last I knew) 8% extra because they figure many people tip in cash and don't report it. Hence servers minimum wage being so low and them relying on tips.

Fuck taxing on tips or 98% of anything else. Taxation is theft period.

Yeah totes didn't see where you specified that

instead of worrying about them not having an artificial minimum wage imposed upon them as if that is a bad thing, you should instead be worried about those that do have such an imposition in the way of their employment

Not following, what's the imposition?

The Law That Never Was <---- google this

16th amdt is fraud aka income tax based on the 16th amdt is fraud.

Yea,I wish they would make a law no tipping. Than some people would tip for actually getting great service and no one would complain. So the law would not be enforced. It would however get rid of the stupid tipping standard. I don’t understand why should I tip for normal service? I tip 20% all the time and I never get better than what I expect these days. Most times I get worse than I expect.

I just don’t understand why someone should get tipped unless they do something over the top. The rest is the job. That includes welders, helicopter pilots, lawyers, garbage men.

People just throw out 20%...

You tipping before or after tax?

And if you said .. Every 5th outing, I'm going to buy an extra one?
Does that make sense?

And why 20%? Damn, God only wants 10% and he's saving your eternal soul.

Fuck that.

And people flex that 20% they give??? Why???
Is your house paid off, is your retirement funded, is your kids college funded?
NO? And you're giving away 20%???
That ain't a flex, that's being shitty with money.

Edit:
And why is it based off a percentage, and not how long I took the table? Or how many re-fills I got? Or how mn ay times I was checked on?

I can run a waitress to death and take up a table for 2 hours on a $20.00 tab, or I can be in & out in 30 minutes on an $80.00 tab, what justifies the extra money for the same work?

If tips are income and people are relying on them as such, tax it.

If tips are a gift in return for above and beyond service then pay normal minimum wage not server minimum wage. And don't complain when I only tip for above and beyond at places where tipping was normal.

Or no income tax for all. Only real minimum wage is 0. And show the constitutionality of property tax while you're at it.

Problem is those people who aren't getting whipped vote for the rest of us to get whipped.

Fuck it, we'll all get taxed to hell together. Bring on the collapse.

I've always been one to tip for "great service"...nowadays you get nothing more than the bare fucking minimum and are expected to leave a huge tip because the payment machine prompted me to.
Fuck that...

As to the question...
If it's "required" tax it
If it's a gift.....

I voted yes on taxing tips.... But I am a very heavy tipper for good service at restaurants (20%+). That is only for waiters or waitress that are doing their job. Take out places where I wait in line; they can go fuck them selfs.
II always thought that wait staff were paid at below minimum wage..... Is that true?:homer::homer::homer:
Used to be true in all states but several have passed laws raising the server wage to at least minimum wage. And the cost of their meals definitely shows it.

And completely fuck the tablet bullshit for ordering and payment. Its just an easier way for the company to lick the IRS boot leather.

The servers that like them don’t realize they are helping the company put them out of a job. I wont order or pay on one. No other option at the restaurant? I will go elsewhere.

A bottle of wine is a gift. Socks from your grandma are gifts. Any money you receive working is income. It's not my fault your only employable skill involves refilling a glass of water. Pay up like everyone else.

wjw. what a grump.

it is a citizen's responsibility to minimize tax contributions where ever possible. In that line of thougt, despite the whole tipping vs income arguement, I will stand on the side of "not taxable". I dont care if I get taxed for something similar and a hateful liberal pussbag doesn't have to pay, I will continue to deny that currently untaxed income from being taxed.

Eff the gov. They just waste the shit anyway and dont deserve it. I will continue to seek out every deduction, loophole, whatever, that I can to reduce my tax payments.
