What's new

KTM 300 question

I think Slavens makes injector relocation kits for the TPI bikes. Not sure who else does, but homeboy was probably talking about something like that.

He's just selling TSP parts. I kinda like buying crap from here as well SBMP - Performance Shop - South Bay Moto Performance

I put that kit on the 150 along with other shit:grinpimp: Just takes one of the injectors and dumps it into the air boot.

I still have a 85 XR350 plated bought new. Rode it last weekend. We had 2. Both had the piston and cylinder break dropping parts into the trans at speed about a year apart. We fixed the first correctly and it still runs. The second one blew up the trans coming back to Tecate a little bit past Mike's Sky ranch.

Now the hard truth. The 350/400 are great bikes and will get you through just about anything but... The riding position is horrible if you are taller unless you like riding the seat and only standing when needed. As far as old bikes go my 95 620rxc had way better ergo and was a joy to ride if you could get it started. My 08 CRF450 laughs at both and was the complete wrong bike for riding Dusy with a bunch of faster guys on 300'S.

My old man was pretty against getting a 2stroke. He knew XR and DRZ 400's and wanted the new version of that.

Found him a husaberg 300...Fucker wont shut up about that bike now:laughing:

it is fun being old and kicking the shit out of the younger crowd on a clapped out old tech machine though
actually I think I enjoy it a little too much :grinpimp:

I'm assuming you were running different gearing and the short tires? Tire height makes a bigger difference than most realize. But they feel snappy on the road with the shorter setup.

Yes, iirc 42t on the SM 49t on the knobs. It's the biggest gap you can go without swapping the chain or front sprocket. The dirt setup taps the limiter about 90, it'll get there pretty easy

If you have a 90s dual sport XR, wore danners an a walmart helmet...We have met :flipoff:

I have the barely legal DRZ400 with all the money spent on shock/ fork internals and hidden steering dampeners
Knee braces took the graphics off years ago,

I call it my old man bike

No, he had a carb bike that had been converted. He's the kinda guy who would fit in here though, enjoys a spot of recreational re-engineering here and there. And he's a legit soil scientist:flipoff2:, first time I met him was on a job where I was supervising excavation work and he was taking soil samples for contamination analysis.
I'll have to ask him next time I see him for more info.

Recreational re-engineering?

He bought it used like that. Probably from a guy who dumped a boat load of money into it, then hated it after about 3 rides when it started with an inconsistent idle...Same as the guy who owns it now...Then one day he found a vacuum leak, fixed it, and now he loves it again.

Who knows, some people drive chevies on purpose, there's no accounting for the choices people make.

And I think I have a set of XC-W trans gears for a '08-'16 if anyone is attempting to convert a SX or other trans.

why would you screw with anything on bikes other than suspension anymore is weird to me

My last bike was a CRF250R. I opened the crate, rolled the handlebars up, adjusted the levers, air pressure, put my numbers on. Other than the initial ride around the yard I hadn't rode it. I went to may local race day and qualified for the main my first moto.
I rode it that way up until I sold it

I was faster on that bike than I was on the big bikes

Just learn to make the bike go fast :grinpimp:

That was in 04(?) I can imagine what the new bike are like now

Bullshit. You had it apart every 12 hours to do the valves, just like every other crf of that vintage:flipoff2:

How fast have you fags gone on your dirt bikes?

2016 Husky 350 Dually (no flatbed). Long stretch of road where ya got alot of visibility on the sides for animals and shit. Kept clicking through the gears till I saw a 9 on the speedo. Pretty squirrely on oem knobs. Tried to stay loose on my grip but it was exhilarating. :homer:

I want to find a clean ole XR600 for days when I want to cruise and tractor around the trails.

This could have submitted in the 'how you know you're getting old' thread.

Brought mine to work today.

I have went until the ignition starts cutting off
how fast is that?:grinpimp:

No shit
gas and oil

six or so seasons seasons on that bike
I loved that thing (except the seat)

You're the only person on this earth who did that. Every other one of those bikes needed valves about as soon as you started it after a valve job. Not as bad as the 450s, but they were fuckin terrible.

My 23 300xcw I saw 127kph on gravel, with a 120 gummy and a mousse. So around 75mph I think? That was top of 6th. Stock gearing. I'd rather cruise around 40mph if we're running roads though.

The 300 has been in the 80's a bunch. All mostly on gravel road.

GPS said 97 and was still pulling hard when I chickened out on my 540. That was pavement though. Michelin Starcross soft terrain whatever tires:laughing:

I could just barely hit 70mph on that stupid 150 before I geared it. An lemme tell ya something. It really sounded like you were doing something:lmao:

Now it will hit 60mph and I dont care how long of a straight stretch it is. You will not ever get 61mph:laughing:

I also didn't live at redline, I race old people classes
