We did breadboarded circuits in college, so that solider machine was fascinating. As to the statement "we don't know what were doing" I am quite sure that was to keep the know it alls from telling them how they would o it. They try to come off as backyard builders, but all you have to do is look at the build and know they are damn smart, and better educated than most of us.

The table of shame at the end leads me to believe they didn’t know what they were doing to start, but figured it out by the end
