I did not quit drinking

I have a feeling my liver will hate me tomorrow. Having Thanksgiving at a grange hall tonight with 100ish other PB's. Guaranteed tomorrow will be a little rough :homer:

To paraphrase Mitch, "I used to drink. I still do, but I used to, too."

In a thread at the old site years ago I learned 'normal ice' would fuck up a supreme/super-duper expensive liquor drink.

Tech question:
Where would one find appropriate/approved quality ice for said liquor?🤔

IIRC; someone posted that chunks of genuine fuckin' icebergs are harvested.:laughing::smokin:

I too am not a quitter (even if I rolled a rzr after too many trail sodas). I was gonna drink some whiskey tonight, until I found a bottle of sake I forgot about. Since we had Thai for dinner I felt it appropriate.

Wtf. Due to covid or just because they're assholes?
No. They banned it years ago because drinking is bad. Probably because somebody left a happy hour and got into an accident so we had to solve that "problem". Now they they want to allow happy hour again in order to help restaurants struggling due to covid. Next level absurdity.

Bars are like guns. It’s not the users fault a bus load of nuns and orphans got killed.
:sarcasm: for the Gary’s of the world.

Usually the purpose of "happy hour" is to have some customers instead of none, at certain times of the day.

Happy hour still exists around here... to help prop up the otherwise slow mid-afternoon and late-dinner hours. It should be covid-compatible since its not about maxing out the seating.

I'm still trying to process this. What is to stop the restaurant and/or bar from having a "sale" on drinks? This is objectively hilarious.

The bottom line. Any idea how unprofitable a pub/restaurant is these days? Costs are staggering - high priced drinks are what keeps the doors open. Food is provided to keep you there longer... buying drinks.

It's some bible belt shit. Happy hour is banned here too. Any special must run all day.
huh? never heard of that crap out here.

I'd guess some numb nuts sued someone on the East coast cause they couldn't get their drink special at 10:30 am.

huh never knew this was a thing:

Rhode Island's ban on happy hour dates back to 1985, when lawmakers nationwide were facing pressure to crack down on drunk driving.

Spurred by the death of a 20-year-old woman who was killed after leaving Braintree bar, Massachusetts became the first state to ban happy hour in 1984. Rhode Island followed suit a year later.

But she's not arguing that Rhode Island should revert to the way things were in the old days, when you could order two-for-one drink specials without any food to soak up the liquor.

"That to me just sounds like chaos," she said.

Instead, House Bill 7060 would allow happy hour drink specials "as part of a larger transaction that includes a meal." (That means food "which is sufficient to constitute breakfast, lunch or dinner," not snacks like popcorn, the bill text notes.)

"It sort of forces you to eat something," Alzate said.
 :shaking:

Rhode Island is one of only eight states with an outright ban on happy hour. (The others: Alaska, Indiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah and Vermont.) The measure was intended to cut down on drunk driving, but those clamoring to overturn it say that there's other ways to address that issue.
