Ford 2.7 vs 3.5 vs. 5.0

Yep. The little ecoboost in the Bronco we’ve got tunes itself up for the octane it’s receiving. Give it 85 and it’ll dial back timing so it doesn’t ping or hurt itself. Put 110 in it and it cranks up the air the spark and gets pretty spicy.
My 5.0 rips when it has E85 and is in sport mode.

Ever hand checked fuel mileage on it on E85? Edit: I think it was you that said 20 but dyno hp on E85?
I have not hand checked mileage but the truck indicated a pretty substantial drop in mileage.

My '15 5.0 drops 3-4 mpg on E85. I usually only run it when towing since I'm already going to get shit mileage :flipoff2:

About 3/4 of the way through our trip. Did 1k miles on day one, mostly at 80mph.

Been pretty happy with this thing (6spd/2.7) hit the scale at 7100/5800.

It did a lot of time in 6th at 80 in the flats, but would also bump down to 5th quite a bit. Today it seemed to be more happy at about 77 in 5th. Probably minor differences in wind or something. It definitely doesn't feel likes it's screaming or struggling. Even on some good grades it would still hold 75-80 in 3rd at about 4k. We've been up over 6k' on the interstates and 10k' on back roads.

I would not hesitate to buy this truck again for towing a load like this. It absolutely destroys the 01 gm 6.0/4l80e I had and would probably eat up most early 00s and older diesels at this wieght.

Mpg isn't horrible for the speeds and mountains we've been seeing either. It's at around 11 currently.

Not bad at all, My scout on my deck over comes in around 9500/ and my Truck with the midrise cap on it (Super Crew 6.5' Bed) is 7000. I get an avg between 8-10 MPG depending on wind lol. But I've come to the realization that anything over 70 retardedly drops the MPG off. So I keep it there and enjoy the drive.

I used to get 12-13 Mpg with my old low deck carhauler and before the 1 ton swap on scout. couple thousand pounds less in towed weight and less drag being lower.

Just a 5 star 87 octane tow tune is all I ever use. 3.5 Ecoboost.

Those 2.7's are impressive.

I did it as an experiment because e85 was $3/gallon and regular was $4/gallon and I was going to be on the highway in the mountains. It seemed like if I kept my foot out of it, the math worked out slightly in e85s favor. This was running from SW PA to south of Charleston so it was a lot of hills.

I also noticed slightly better average Fuel economy at 75 mph than 70 mph which I attribute to more downshifting due to 3.31 gears and 10sp.

Driving around in customers 2.7eb trucks, they don’t seem that quick. I guess they just lug down and let the turbos work when towing. That is impressive. Although you got roughly the same mileage my 3V V10 truck did towing similar weight.

YA, but does your V10 get 21-25 mpg empty?

I have a 14k deck over also, and it's almost as heavy as this truck and trailer combined, plus all the extra drag of the rig sitting higher. I'd really think about swapping to a low deck trailer if I were you.

I don't know what you concider quick, but this thing moves pretty good for a fullsize truck.

No fucking way that V10 would get 10-11 mpg at 80 mph

They move fine in normal driving. They just tow better than you would expect.

Yeah, I had the cruise set somewhere between 65 and 70. I don’t tow 80 mph unless I absolutely have to.

Yep I've been trying to trade it for a 10k low/mid deck with drive over fenders for a while. That style of trailer just isn't common up here at all. Most are 7500lb car haulers, 10k landscapers or 14k deck over.

You have to make your own. Start with a overbuilt 7k trailer, add drive over fenders or just drive over one side until it is crushed. Upgrade axles.

Had the Cam Phaser Warranty done in September. Was putting washer fluid in a few weeks ago and noticed oil on the passenger valve cover. Brought to Ford last week for an oil change and asked them to look at the oil on the valve cover. I guess they fucked up the gasket on assembly and I'm getting a new gasket/valve cover under warranty. Which I guess are back ordered.

Fords supply chain is fucked. I need a new electric vac pump for the 3rd or 4th time on my 2011 and theyre retarded expensive now if you can find one due to this supply shit. I'm hoping I might get lucky and it might just be a bad inline check valve but. Not holding my breath. Dumb fucking design.

Too bad you can't retrofit the one they put on the back of the DS head on the newer ones.

No real relevance here but I just turned 40k on a 5.0. Yay..
Mine has 120k. Burns a quart of oil between 5k changes, loud at idle. I found the previous owner that had it up to 100k and they said the same while they had it.

No lights on and still hauls hauls ass/gets good mpg for a truck. I will probably get an Oz Omega tune this spring when the summer wheels go on.

19' 5.0, last summer needed passenger side cam timing solenoids, now its cutting off and pinging at idle again, I ordered two sets to keep one set on the shelf. Not bothering with the warranty this time.

Go figure ford lowers the oil pressure at idle via the variable oil pump for "Efficiency" reasons and it exposes the weak solenoid. Come on.........

had the oil burning tsb done last summer also, that helped cut back oil consumption significsantly. But come on, still burns 1-2 qt between changes.

Yet my ol sludged up 4.9 with 170k doesnt burn a drop, nor does my 202k mile 7.3

"progress"

I did that to my '14. It got the transmission shifting like its supposed to, but thats about it. Not sure if I would spend the money on it again

The 18 and up has direct and port injection and the 10 speed that both really respond to a tune. Supposedly it can run low 13s or high 12s with a CAI, Oz tune and E85.

Time to lockout the phasers and buy a tube of rtv.

I sold the 3V V10 super duty so the 5.0/10speed truck got to tow yesterday. It didn’t have the factory brake control so I called my favorite junkyard and had them send me one, installed it and enabled it with Forscan.

The Sequoia was supposed to have a bad motor but it turned out the radiator cap was stuck which caused the radiator to blow. I put a radiator in and have been driving it since.

Anyway, the truck towed better than most 1/2 tons I have towed with. Good power and good braking. The load definitely pushed the truck around more so I will probably put the airbags on sooner rather than later.
