Family friendly but fun, purchase advice

Mine may not be fun....I have no idea just yet. I did just pick it up yesterday though. Being a cheap bastard I wanted something I could pay cash for. It was less then $10k, which is pretty decent around here.

2013 Kawasaki Teryx 4 750 (small and likely underpowered)
4100 miles
street legal kit
2" lift
28" tires (worn but life left)/aftermarket rims
winch
2 windshields
stock rims and junk tires.

Kawi's are good machines but stay on top of maintaining that V-twin, they're expensive as shit to rebuild if it needs it.

Wow these are a blast! Little dude loved it, daughter terrified above 15 mph, wife warming up to the sport style after feeling the seat and overall comfort. Belt has kind of an odd feel but got used to it quick

Well now you fucked up because everything else is going to feel slow as fuck

I probably would have got that same model if they didn't have the wheelbase of a crew cab 1 ton.
You get used to it. My defender crew felt like a big bitch when I first got it. Now my crew commander feels small.

That’s long. But I guess that’s what you need to accommodate 4 humans. My sami has 84” WB :lmao:

Looks like y’all had fun!

I know it’s long, I’m saying you get used to it. My defender was 115” and the commander is 120”.

Commander is shorter, no?

Still a ways from 135" My talon was 117" and it still sucked, nothing to get used to when you have to make 10 pt turns and get high centered on the curvature of the earth.:flipoff2:

I can't imagine a 4 seat x3 anywhere but dire roads or dunes

I had to back 4 X3's Maxes into the shop last night because we have too much inventory, they're tricky but because the tires are basically at the corners you figure out really quick how to maneuver them without hitting stuff.

OP I don't know where you're located but we've got a handful of X3 Max's we'd sell at invoice. We're in eastern MO about 20 miles south of Hannibal.

It’s a different trail experience here. The private timber trails are all cut to accommodate long machines. There’s usually only a couple times where you have to backup and realign, usually on a switchback before a steep climb. But, I do get what you are saying. They are definitely long.

I'm talking the x3 4seat specifically, it's only 2" shorter wb than a jeep gladiator

The 115" is 4 seats are long, but like you said manageable.

I really liked the 4 seat rmax until I saw a video of how it handled a speed with 4 people in in. Having the rear seats high and over the rear axle made it look very sketchy vs the general and can am.

I'd think something in the 100-105" would be ideal imo.

Lol yes that was the only way I could set up to try both. Turning radius sucked on it but definitely fun.

Here is today's

Saw this and may add to the list. Was it lifted? Shortest 4 seater I saw out here

Sits way higher than the can am, pic makes it look long

So the whole fam agrees they like the sport over utility all day. Didn't realize how different they'd be riding back to back. I'll call it a success, now I gotta pick one while it's still a good idea:homer:

Yes was a good time and I felt the same about my sami too, our local park shut down to trucks a few years ago so I don't wheel unless it's a planned out deal.

What about the in between? Maverick sport? Way shorter wheelbase, but not a ranch utv.

Fwiw, I know nothing about them except size.

Missed the second half, I'll send a pm. Debating these vs rmax right now

If you're interested in the Rmax, watch the SxSblog video where they shoot out a 4 seat rmax vs a 4 seat general xp and 4 seat commander. It's a good quality machine but is the worst performing in the crossover category. The general xp is actually pretty capable as a sport machine.

What's it take to get a 4 seater on 35s? I have some I had on my samurai looking for a home:usa:

What’s the real opinion on quality and reliability on the can ams? To me, it felt like Polaris is lowest quality (max wrench time), then maybe can am, then the Japanese machines with the highest reliability/least wrench time. I’m partial to the KRX and the looks/reputation of the Rmax, but I’ve never done anything but touch one.

Internet info is all over the place. I initially was really drawn to the Hondas but no rental places have them. Mostly see yamaha and can am for rent and figure they get beat on and must hold up but I don't know. Really like the wheelbase of the Talon (and price)

Maybe biased and limited since I like mine and don’t want any different.

Looking at the turbo sport class. I think the CanAm issues are known and fixable and mostly depend on driver. Polaris has “stop rides” that are almost unfixable.

Mine was still fine on stock a-arms, trailing arms and ball joints at 2700 miles on 35s. It did already have radius rods and RCVs among other upgrades when I picked it up and/or did over time. Just finally did HCR hard parts and front gusset kit. But I also rarely drive over 70-80%, never jump it and not much crawling.

crispins has a 4 seat rental Talon X. It's got like 28k miles on it and it's still going strong.

For 23 Honda is making an R model Talon that's going to have the 18/21 inches of travel and wider stance that the 2 seat R has but will be a 4 seater. :smokin:
