That created the "funny money" era in the oil field. Intangible drilling costs were a complete tax write off, and that brought more money into exploration business than the bankers, exploration companies, service companies, and shysters could handle. I lived through it in Oklahoma City. I'm glad I lived it because I would never believe the stories otherwise. I think OKC had the most Rolls Royce sales in the US during those years.
