Last time I was at Portsmouth Island in NC, which is an island you can't get to without ferry, and can't travel without 4wd.. saw alot of stuff like that sticking out of sand dunes that were either abandoned, or maybe left to help with dune construction or something. Portsmouth Island was abandoned in the late 70s i think cus the inlet got washed in by a hurricane and the port and small town was finally abandoned.

Yep. I’ve been there and seen the same ones. Dune construction was what we were told.

Right? I haven’t been to the Outer Banks since the mid 80’s. I would hate to spoil the memories by visiting now, sad emoji.

Used to be common to use an engine if you needed a ~500lb mooring. I know a couple places where there's some old ones that were pulled out and are still rusting by the shoreline.

Although not that big of a fail. My brother worked at BSA's Camp Entrada in Moab years ago. Some leader that should hve known better put the whole troops tents in a dry wash. He ingored multiple warnings from staff to not put the tents there. He ended up loosing his Iphone, wedding ring and at least half of his troops gear a couple days later after a little rain storm.

My High School buddy, leans out the passenger window and yells 'high five'
slap
going about that speed

it took him all the way home to stop sucking air through his teeth

I still chuckle when I think about it
I can still hear it
My high school friend broke his wrist sitting next to me
