I'm paranoid of the M18 batteries after seeing pics of shops burned.

Now imagine a car with the equivalent of what, 1000 M18 batteries?
I'm paranoid too now.
Think I might start charging outside

And we will pay for it. Those increased insurance premiums gotta come from somewhere. New car price increases just jack up the used market.

Old wood stove (or something similar). Install chimney and charge your shit inside the stove.

Seal the chimney with something that will melt/burn so when your shit catches fire it's all vented outside and no damage other than all your batteries and chargers.

That's a good idea
I'll do that

How about not keeping your batteries on a charger for days? Lot of people do it.

Charge it while in garage doing something else.

Have 20 plus M18 batteries, once fully charged all are kept together/one shelf.

You're right, my mistake.

I should have said charge and store your batteries in the stove.
They don't only catch fire while charging.

Thanks!

Edit: What exactly is your plan if you are in the garage when one starts to burn?

This, I never leave a battery on the charger. Had a buddy that lost his shop that way. First thing the fire Marshall asked him was how many battery chargers he had plugged in.

Would an EV be charging while on a boat?

There’s also plenty of stories of E-bikes catching and burning inside NY apartment buildings.

They should store them in bags for shipping.

this would probably work for your M18 batteries. A few people have burned their garage down with RC car batteries.

Amazon.com

IDK how good a $19 bag is. Would be interesting to test with a "big" 9/12ah M18 battery.

We use this kind of stuff for EV batteries:

Lithium is a metal that once on fire will burn through steal and iron easily. So while this may sound like a good idea, it won't contain the damage it will cause for long.

and once it reaches the groundwater it'll explode throwing fallout everywhere

oh wait that was a different movie

Ive never gone looking for stories of batteries burning shit down. But ive heard of plenty of jump starter packs and rc batteries blowing up. Never heard of a m18 burning. I would imagine a majority of jump starters are made in china.

m18 batteries are still all metal packaged cells
those jump starter things are lipo pouch cells exposed to a brazillian amps more current than they're rated for

both are made in chy-na

Lance (old pee-b-bee)burned his RV down (and burnt the shit outtah himself) when an RC battery let go while he was driving down the road.
Yeah, but I think it was a hoverboard wasn't it?

Not that it really matters. Results were the same.

Ever hear of a m18 spontaneously combusting or swelling? Genuinely curious if they fail from a non abusive situation.
