What's new

Don't we have a "bitch about idiots on CL or Marketplace" thread?

I hate the "what's your bottom dollar"

If you actually have ever haggled, it's the dumbest fucking thing you could ever say.
For sure.

I went with my BIL to look at a Toyota pickup. He looks it over and gets the the money part of things and throws out the "what's your bottom dollar?". I wanted to hide somewhere.

I usually ask "how firm are you on the price?". It seems way more respectful and I always get good response.

I went to buy a Nissan Xterra for my daughter. Lady lists it for $1850, then down to $1500 by the time I called about it.
After looking it over and not nit picking too much, I ask "how firm are you on the price?" Hoping to drop it a hundred or so. She talked herself down to $1000 :lmao::smokin:

I think it is a part of the younger generations "bro culture". A young guy I know was trying to buy a truck. They are asking 7500, he does the old "5K cash today" thing and then wondered why things went awry. He kind of demanded it and then was surprised when someone else bought the truck. I think alot of it is watching scripted videos and shows has twisted many peoples perceptions. That and a variety of other sociological factors.

Politeness, fidelity and decency will get you far. Especially with older people although everyone enjoys it.

Yes. Some people really should not sell anything. When I was a kid I couldn't sell this FJ55. My buddy says bring it down here. He put a decent price, someone came to look at it. He didn't leave his chair and threw them the keys. Sold it right there. His disinterested method got me $500 more than I could have. He was a natural at that stuff.

People that don't put a price or miles, and over tag their ad should be permanently banned from selling online
Same with listing at $1 or $15 when you really want 15k.

The tag shit is stupid, there's an outfit from California that posts equipment on Craigslist up here with more tags in the ad than info. I can search for just about anything and find their stuff.

Or the no details.

"Brush Guard - $150"

Off what? You dont have to list everything it will fit, but at least tell people what it came off of.

I can't sell a set of wheel and tires around here without someone asking if they will fit their chevy. Always an S10 or blazer. Even been asked about miata wheels.

Right now I have a guy - asking 175, he offered 150 picked up. I said ok. Then the day of pickup he no showed, messaged him - My car won't make it that far, can we meet. Then the next day, can we meet.

1. You offered pickup with the deal. I accepted based on that
2. You know where I am, its listed in the ad
3. If you want to meet at least once propose a location so I can determine if its worth my time. I have zero idea where you are coming from.

About to delist everything on FBMP. Going to try offerup. Forums are best but I don't feel like joining forums just to sell 1-2 items and a lot of it is smaller and not worth shipping.

Get that anytime I sell extra wheels for my F150, despite listing in the ad that they are metric 6 lug and don't fit anything but Ford/Lincoln 6 lug trucks.

I sold a good running but overall crappy 92 e350 a few years ago for $650. Guy shows up at my house a few months later asking if I could file for a lost title. He had gotten temp 60 day tags but never went and registered it properly so he didn't want to pay the late fees. I told him it sounded like his problem. He showed up another couple months later to tell me the front tires were wearing fast, yet again sounds like a you problem. TLDR fuck people.

I don't even bother selling anything any more because of the idiots I've encountered.

I listed my 99 TA after moving to Tx. Dude drove 70+ mi 1 way to check it out. Rolls up in a brand new F250 with a big ass lift and bro dozer wheels/tires. Spends 2hrs at my house going over every aspect of the car. Wants to meet me the next day to get the stereo system removed and do the deal. Cool.

The next day, he's talking to me, planning a time to meet then just cuts communication. Never heard from him again except my ad kept getting flagged for about a week afterwards. :homer:

THIS is why I meet people in town. I have had a few people come back for bullshit. I will never sell things with known problems undisclosed, but sometimes shit happens to them unforseen.

The whole address on the title thing fucked me on that one.

Don't even get me started on people wanting you to bring a vehicle to them

What the fuck? I would never have the balls to show up at someones doorstep expecting them to do things for me or wanting them to address a problem with something I bought certainly not months after the fact, sounds like a really good way to get your ass kicked.

I found I now have to ask if they have the money now when they make offers.

Sold a car a while back, guy comes, drives it all that, makes an offer I agree too. THEN he says give him a week or so to come up with the funds......:mad3::mad3::mad3::mad3:

Tried to look at a car the other day. Sent the first message asking to come see it since it’s in town and easier than 20 questions. Couple hours later I was actually walking out the door, and he responded and got the address with “text me when you get here”.

5-10 minutes later I pull up and send “just pulled up”, immediate response of “alright, sounds good”. I walk around the car in their tiny driveway for 5 minutes. Then just left since he never came out.

Over an hour later, he’s like “on your way?” No jackass, I was there and you couldn’t be bothered.

Said he was eating and not looking at his phone, MFer you responded. :flipoff:

I always put bounds around the acceptance for location and time

"I can do $150 if you pick it up tomorrow"

Had too many people give an offer, accept and then "Oh, can you deliver to xx". That needs to be brought up before an offer is made

I got one asking what my cash price is. ehm, it says the price and no trades right in the listing.

I have them come to my shop. Lots of cameras, lots of guns and lots of neighbors that keep an eye on each other’s property. I also make damn sure to accurately represent the item I am selling, as most of us on this forum do.

My house is almost impossible to find if you have never been there. Which is how we like it but the average Craigslist buyer wouldn’t find it.

That's why this bike I'm selling is on a trailer and ready for me to haul to a local, public place. It also helps that my property is in two towns so I can keep switching back and forth where it is I live.

From my buddy who is Mr. Offer-up. Be aware if you have any sort of issue with your account, there is zero way to contact them. They have a list of FAQs and that's it. No email, no texting, no phone to actually get in touch with a real person or even a bot to fix a problem.

If at all possible, this is my method. If I can't haul it for some reason (rare) I at least get it out front away from my cool cars. I HATE having people over but sometimes I have to.

For some reason everytime someone comes to buy something they bring a buddy. That is cool, whatever. However one time they guy bought three buddies and while we were loading stuff up his other two went back to my "collection" and decided to take pictures of my cars. At that time I had some Mopars and Broncos etc. Really made me unhappy. Of course I must not know what an early Bronco is worth, maybe I will give it to them etc. I avoid this situation now by asking them to stay with the truck out front. Pretty rude people out there and the world is a lot crazier now.

Outside of the firefighters, more people have walked on the moon than have been to my property.

My get out of my garage item left this morning, only took 4 days, guys trailer was a bit short but got it on there he just can't make sharp right turns.

I try I really do. I have so much stuff from years ago that a couple of times a year it happens unfortunately. The advantage that I have is that I am behind several gates and extremely rural. Way out there. If I get an unannounced drop in every few years it is surprising.

I like to meet people away from my house more for convenience and so forth. I am so rural that people don't want to drive out here.

Love it. It is nice to see things gone. Hope he makes it home!

Yep, I don't have much in the way of cool vehicles, but I have pieced together a fair amount of tools/equipment and I have no interest in them wandering off.
If I have to meet someone at the house I try to have anything "interesting" put away and all the garage doors closed.
Otherwise I prefer to meet them elsewhere.

That's a big nope from me.
Stay together up where I can see all of you and no pictures.
I have stuff inside to keep it out of sight and away from the prying eyes of those who would put together a "shopping list" to come back for later.
