My old golden is almost 12. He thought he was still a puppy to a year or so ago, now he gets up pretty slow and hobbled around. Back end not working like it did.
we lost a lab at 15 and a coydog (half shep, half coyote) at 16 and we were anxious NOT to have an empty house. So, the last year we had the lab, we got the golden.

That makes me happy about your golden (that he has been so puppylike for so long) it is hard when they slow down. Our coydog was a tough tough girl and hung in until about the last 3 months when her hips just wouldn't function anymore and she got mouth cancer.

When we went to put her down (my wife insisted on the vet which was a first for me) the first shot actually perked her up, no pain for the first time in awhile...

not gonna lie, I still think about both of them and one of my other dogs from before them and get misty. I think I am happiest when I get in my truck and a dog has hopped in and knows the deal.

My coydog came along when you couldn't really let them ride in the back anymore (in town), the dog before that one (just a cattledog mix) would never let me leave without her, she'd jump in the back and away we'd go.

No matter where I went, she'd wait for me. Great dog.

Coydog was the same. She just wanted to be with us (and stack cattle)

A neighbor used one of our pens to finish her cattle and in payment she gave me some of the beef which was great and unexpected.

Anyway, the coydog would hang out all day waiting for me and got to be friends with one of the cattle in the pen. this cow would lick the dog on her head and they were thick as thieves.

Anyway, when the neighbor got her beef, she brought over what she gave me and also a nice bag of bones for the dogs.

The next day, the dog is just calmly gnawing away on a big bone of the cow that had been licking her head a few days before...

circle of life....

Maple, 4 months old, still a toddler. No focus, wants to be in on everything. We had her about a week and a half, she and the cat were "playing", chasing each other. Cat chases her into a room, dog turns around, cat swipes at her and gets her left eye. She has glaucoma, gets eye drops regularly, but will lose the eye within a year.
