The rangerovers that broke all their axles in 1972 with oversize "Swamp" tyres has been bugging me for a while. I was finally able to dig through all the pics and work out what they did:

They were 12-16.5" (common skid steer loader size now) Firestone Town & Country tyres. Almost 33" OD. But got even bigger with all the jungle mud attahced.
They changed to 750-16" Firestone Super All Traction and got through.
The Darien Gap was ~250 miles long back in 1972 with paths only used by smugglers. Now it's got a 200 mile road leaving only ~40 mile gap with a well worn path through.
