"new" Daily means setting up a new tool kit. I carried almost nothing in the 06' Civic. Planning to carry a little more in the new-to-me 04' GX470

Generally I've been across the board. from nothing, to what I'd call the junkyard trip kit, basically a full 3/8,1/2" socket set, full plier set, full screwdriver set, breaker bar, vise grips, tie wraps, electrical crimps, etc. Usually the overflow/extras I had from my main garage box made it up.

Thinking this time around it's gonna be
  • 1/4 3/8 socket set. this one looked nice and organized for the price and the through sockets should hopefully cover the need for deep sockets Amazon.com $40 made me bite
  • vise grips, slip jaw pliers, linemans pliers
  • zip ties
  • phillips/flathead screwdriver for the spots the one in the above kit won't reach
  • jump pack or cables
  • shitty HF multimeter

suspect a lot of people are in the "nothing, I have AAA boat. but I'm sure some carry the full junkyard kit

A lot of the time nothing, but lately each has a el cheapo cased multi drive size socket set with screwdriver tips in there too most of the time. And a smart phone and AAA membership.

I normally buy a parts store tool set for each vehicle. All basic sizes of 1/4 to 1/2" sockets and ratchets and the basic wrenches.

And then theres my service truck...I've broken a lot on the road and I hate feeling helpless.

Depends on the car. I swap cars so often it's impractical to fill all of them. I can limp a lot of things home. All my trucks have jumper cables, some hand tools, and occasionally a lockout set. The towpig normally has a full shop worth of tools in it.

I have a little carry box with leftovers tools, electrical tape, zip ties and a couple of hose clamps. Big 4 way and a multi tool.
Enough to help someone else out, but if my daily breaks I’m calling a tow to get it home, unless it is something very trivial.

The trail rig has the same basic kit, just a little expanded. I’ve bought a lot of partial tool sets at garage sales just to mix and match for each of the rigs.

I don't carry much in the way of actual tools.

-Jumper cables/jump pack
-Tow strap
-Jerk strap
-Couple clevis's
-Tire Plugs
-Simple first aid kit

Jump Cables
Small Air Compressor
Breaker Bar w/ Socket for Lugs
First Aid Kit
Mechanix Gloves
Some Rags
Cheap Multi-Tool
And one of the vehicles has a small all in one blow molded kit with screwdrivers, socket set, pliers, etc.

I favor jump boxes over cables these days.

Amazon chicom lithium stuff. Last one I got has a compressor built in too.

Don't forget fluids. For the car and for you. Couple bottles of water in each rig.

Old sweatshirt for keeping warm or laying in the dirt.

Day to day, pretty minimal. Basic wrenches and hand tools. It's a small bag, I can usually limp home, or if I need to limp to a parts store and buy a tool so be it. If I'm taking a road trip, I have one tool bag that rotates between what we are driving. It's my trail bag for the 80 and the Bronco, but covers what I need in the LS400 and 1st gen 4runner.

Not much anymore, but my daily drive is all main roads so it's not a huge deal if I break down. I've got towing and roadside coverage on my insurance, the loan, and two different credit cards. Only thing I carry anymore is an inflator, can of tire slime, and a roll of duct tape. If I need more than that I'll just have my shit towed home or to work and fix it either place. If it's something more than I want to fuck with outside my apartment I'll just get towed to work and worst case I've got half a dozen different vehicles there I can use til I fix my shit.

Even with the "security" cover in the back of the JK I don't want to leave a bunch of tools in a vehicle that at best has a fabric top on it. Plus anything in the back tends to fly all over the place. On the rare occasion I need to make a road trip I'll throw a tool box in the back with essentials and a jack.

Not much to add to what others have said, but I put a 1/2 breaker bar and set of cheap amazon sockets designed to handle most lug sizes, in each vehicle. I hate using the supplied tire tool to change a tire and can get better leverage on the breaker bar.

I have jumper cables, a couple hammers, duct tape and zip ties and you're pretty much set.

Jump box/compressor combo that project farm recommended vitoman or something like that. It kicks ass fwiw. Plug kit. If I'm in a sae/metric ride, a harbor freight/cheap amazon appropriate wrench set, 1/4 drive sae/metric specific socket set. basic pliers, slip joint pliers, long curved jaw needle nose. A decent screw driver in phillips and flat. Then one of those cheap bit sets that usually also come with a driver of some sort. It goes nicely in a harbor freight canvas small bag except the jump box. It's usually thrown about the vehicle and the attachments take forever to locate.

ETA - electrical tape, zip ties, tie wire, duct tape and fuses. Depending on the vehicle, maybe a test light.

I'm in the nothing boat for daily driving, when its a road trip it tends to be the whole rock crawling set, but thats usually because the rock crawler is there

Spare tire, jack, tire iron, jumper cables. Ice chains for the shoes/boots and a blanket in the winter. Truck has the same, plus a couple screwdrivers.

If I need more, I'll tow it home.

set of wrenches, set of screwdrivers, set of pliers, set of 1/2 sockets and a ratchet

by 'set' I mean an assortment of whatever was laying around
You dont carry a spare head, valves, springs, headgasket, timing belt, head studs, turbo, and injectors for them kraut wagons?
