coldest spot in the 48?

Twas 48* this AM as I rode a moto to work...

Coldest place or coldest incorporated town? Big difference.

Since I HATE the fucking cold I am going to say OKLA MOTHERFUCKING HOMA, It was 52 F in my hood and this shit hurts. I HATE THE FUCKING COLD. Give 100+ before 60, any fucking day. Yes medical issues are attached, thyroid is the main.

Spearfish isn't that bad. Sits just above 3000 feet. I lived there 3 winters. Lots of little towns in Wyoming that sit at 6000-7000 that get cold as all hell.
I think I was thinking of the biggest temperature swing, it has some weather record.

You don't know what HATE is Sparky.

Big Piney, WY is frequently the coldest place in the lower 48. I know I spent one of the shittiest days of my life working on a drilling rig in the middle of winter on a mountain top just outside of Big Piney.
Spent most of last winter splicing fiber down the highway there. You sir may be correct. It was awful.
Bondurant Wy is the coldest spot I've experienced in Wyoming.

look south

I live where one of the 27° and 25° on the map is. Northern New Mexico has a 12° right next to us

It was 24 degrees yestermorning when I got up... To early for this crap. :homer:

Supposed to be a warm winter though, at least that's what the weather channel says. I won't take that as gospel.
Meanwhile, in southern Minnesota, we haven't seen a "2" as the first digit in the temperature since May 11th. That is forecast to change, however, with a cold front blowing through tomorrow afternoon bringing our forecast low tomorrow night all they way down to 26.:lmao:

I spent a long stint in Eagan, Minnesota. One of my coldest recollection of winters! Hearty peoples those Minnies, seemed like most malls (especially MOA) doubled as places of recreation, lol In the dead of winter they had walk paths in every mall with people in track suits and whatnot. :grinpimp:

Minnesota, the Dakota's and Wyoming are probably the last places in the continental US I'd want to spend a winter. I did a bunch of work in Medicine Bow Wyoming last summer, and while it was an absolutely beautiful and peaceful place to be at that time the thought of being in that spot during the winter had me all: nope...nope...nope! The few and far between houses I did see out that way had snow fencing higher than the house itself on all sides. Again, nope...nope...nope!

Is it safe to assume that the 12° number is up on top of a mountain and the 27° and 25° numbers are at lower elevations?
Yes. I live at 7,000 ft and don’t have to go far to get to 10k 12K 14K.

Above people keep mentioning eagles nest and angel fire. It’s about 8,300 ft elevation and the spot on the map with the 12°

looks like some place in north Dakota tied New Mexico today

And it’s so funny to me how so many people think of NM as a desert and think they know the state because they drove thru on I40. I live up along the NM/CO border at 7600’ and it will get cold and snowy here. Coldest I’ve personally seen at my house is -23°

Minot, North Dakota flight line would be my guess from experience. Fuck that place.

ETA: mid 20s and of course wind for the low today. Let me say again. Fuck that place.

I’ve lived in a part of Wyoming that got into the -40°s every winter and 50 mph winds.

NM is warmer with a low -20° a few days a year vs weeks in a row.
