We have an above ground pool that came with the house, been filling it for the kids to play in but it's in 100% shade. It's always cold. We have plans for a new pool in the next year so I have no plans to cut trees to unshade this one.

The house is 100% electric and there is only a single 110 outlet near the pump.

I've been looking at the DIY roof top solar pool heaters, the ones where the water trickles down in what is basically a black box.

I was wondering if 200-300' of black hose winding back and fourth would do anything? It's the back side of the house, not seen from the street so I'm not worried about looks.

It would definitely heat the water, especially if the pump is left off for 30 minutes and then turned back on. It would inject the pool with that 300' x whatever diameter's volume of HOT water, and then still giving some warming while pumping through it.

Its the same concept as a solar pool heater, where the pump is diverted to the roof and runs through a grid of hoses in a black soft cover.

Did the 100' of 1" black plastic pipe on a sheet of plywood and a cheap HF low volume pump. Worked well and the water was hot coming off the loop on a sunny day. just put the suck and blow on different sides of the pool and let er run all day.

Not worth the hassle for an above ground pool. It's 1.5" plumbing. He would have to redo it all in 2" when he puts an in ground in
The in-ground will be about 200' away and will have a proper heater, I'm just looking to bring it up few degrees for the time being.

I have to fill the pool about 3/4 with well water. We had a limb poke a hole in the cover and the auto on/off pool cover pump certainly did it's job .... it dumped 1/2 the pool water while we gone. :mad3:

I said **** it and threw about 300' of hose on the roof. It's 5pm and overcast, the water coming out of the well is pretty cold, the water coming out of the other end of the hose is certainly warmer... 65 according to the thermometer. Supposed to have spotted showers the next two days so it will be a bit before I see how it works in the sun.

My wife goes "you're such a nerd" :lmao:

When you put your in ground in, if you fly me out I'll do all your equipment and my cost plus 10. It'd be a hell of a fun trip

He has a stupid sweet yard for a pool too!
