Carnivore diet?

A friend of mine was hospitalized with leukemia and they told him he was diabetic (very obese, with horrible eating habits). I was there when the diabetes team came to educate him on nutrition. They gave him a menu with points for glucemic content and they would give him insulin afterwards. In the menu there were things like fries, sweet potatoes and even cans of soda.
Sweet potatoes aren't that bad. They're actually quite a bit better on the glycemic index than white potatoes. But the medical community is honestly a terrible source of nutritional information. Hell, just look at the meals they bring to hospital patients. Anyone who knows anything about nutrition would throw that shit straight in the trash.

They see him as a cash cow.

My wife has several health issues. Most if not all could be either fixed or at least moderated by diet and exercise. She’s recently been bouncing through specialists and every one of them prescribes another med. When she was at her most recent appointment she mentioned to the GI doc that she wanted to lose weight. Did they say “well you need to watch your diet and start exercising”? No. The doc immediately said “I have a pill that will help with that. :shaking:

Honestly this is what most people want. No effort required, no discipline required, no sacrifices made, just give me a pill.

Her mother was/is the same way, a learned trait I guess. Her mom had the stomach band done years ago and lost weight because she really couldn't eat much, but never did any exercise. Eventually she gained everything back because she wasn't burning any calories regardless of what her intake was. Now she recently had a knee surgery and it didn't heal well, because (shocker) she didn't exercise. I was talking to my FIL last weekend and he mentioned her knee and then leaned in close and said "I'm not going to say this to her, but it didn't heal because she's fat".

My sister in law had the lap band surgery. Lost a bunch of weight but over time it just stretches back out and so did she.

I just can't imagine having so little discipline that getting cut open and having a band literally strapped around your stomach seems like a better option than putting down the fork and walking a few laps a day.

It’s crazy how hard it is for women to give up the sweets. They hate how they look but cannot walk out of a grocery store without half a cart full of cookies candy and bread. I know a girl who’s in the three hundo range. Says she can’t lose weight but every morning she starts her day with a Starbucks drink that is sugar with sugar and whipped cream on top.

I know another two that are back in the three hundo range after the stomach surgery. They lost a ton of weight in the beginning but put it all back on after years of over indulging in sugar and bread.

They definitely seem to have much more of a sweet tooth than men do. Simple carbs like bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes are much bigger weaknesses for me than sweets.

There's definitely enough examples of carnivore diet eliminating or reducing people's autoimmine/inflammatory conditions that it can't be disputed.

If those people are having a severe 10 out of 10 inflammatory response to the typical diet, I wonder how many people are walking around at a 2 or 3 out of 10 and don't even know it because it never gets bad enough, until later in life when other health issues pop up.

A big part of a lot of people's problems is that they feel sorry for themselves. Oh, I'm fat. Oh, I'm out of shape. What am I going to do? Woe is woe is me.

Put the fork down and get off your ass. You didn't get into this situation overnight and you're not gonna get out of it overnight. Start monitoring your diet. Don't get caught up in one diet or the other. If you refuse to change how you eat then just go with pure calories in and calories out. No, that's not the most efficient method but you can still eat your shit if you just have to have it. Log your exercise and calories burned. Once you understand how hard it is to burn calories is that small slice of cake still worth it? You willing to put in 20-30 hard minutes for that cake? Celebrate the wins. You can only walk one lap around the block and you're spent? Well, that sucks but you made it one lap around the block! Keep doing that. Very soon you're gonna be able to do two. Then three. Then four, five, now you can jog around the block once. You just improved 400, 500% in short order and celebrate that for what it is - massive improvement! Improvements by magnitudes. Keep it up! As you dial in your diet more and more you'll find out that you don't actually NEED to eat that shit.

I do fine on my own but every time I live with a woman it becomes a problem. They always HAVE to have sides and that shit is always processed carbs. And desert which is sugary processed carbs.

Yesterday I ate chicken wings for lunch and a T-bone steak for dinner. That’s it. No carbs at all. A woman can’t do that for one meal, let alone every meal. Today. I had elk burger and black beans for breakfast. The other T-bone from last night in the lunchbox for lunch. And I only drink coffee and water during the day. Nothing else till beer time at night. I cannot stand a sugary drink anymore. Soda is absolutely disgusting to me thankfully.

1000% agreed. My wife is the weakness. I have to get her onboard. You don't NEED that shit. Get it out of the fucking house. If it's not here you won't be tempted.

I know what she's going to tell me - of I have to give that up you gotta give up beer. Fucking deal. Done.

When I finished mowing last night I made bacon and brat patties on the blackstone. I did have the two patties on buns so there was some carbs but I didn't have any sides. My wife was at golf league so she didn't eat at home, but if she was home she would have made a couple sides like some type of potatoes or something pasta based. I'm perfectly happy without those sides, she can't have a meal without them. When she got home she had a to go meal from the golf course of a grilled cheese and fries, that went on top of the 8 beers she had golfing. This morning she messaged me and said "I have terrible heartburn this morning for some reason and feel like shit".

Yeah, massive carbs, heavy on fat, minimal protein. Literally the worst possible diet other than acute poisons.

Always beware any group that relies on a largely preventable chronic condition for its survival. Their budget would shrink massively if they relied on primarily genetic type 1 diabetics.

To expand on this you also have to know yourself and be honest with yourself. Some people can do cheat days where they eat shit they shouldn't. Some people can't. I can't. I'm like a damn addict. One day of eating shit and I'm off the damn wagon.

The Diabetes was rare when I went to school. Nobody I knew had it.
Now, there is some diabetic kid with peanut allergy in every class.

Is the water making the frogs gay?

I am fortunate and can do cheat days. For the first few months of this diet I was super strict with no cheating at all. I considered it a challenge to my will power. Some days were harder than others especially around Christmas with all the food. I powered through and lost 20 lbs and can see my abs again after several years. Going to the gym more regularly also helped.

The only carbs in my house on any given day is a pack of tortillas. One tortilla is 25 grams of carbs, makes it so easy to meter intake. I’ll do potato’s for breakfast on the weekend.

Today is the first day since last Sunday my knees haven’t been hurting me. Last weekend was my grandmothers 84th birthday party. I ate one little cupcake that was like 4 bites. And a piece of angel food cake with some strawberry sugar concoction on it. I know when I put it in my mouth it’s going to hurt but I do it every once in a while and remind myself.

Edit: my brother in law thinks I never have food in my house. I’m always confused because I have a years worth of food in the house. I’ve got 3 freezers full of frozen meat. The fridge just has eggs cheese and beer with a myriad of condiments.

Same. I'm only 41 and I honestly can't remember any classmates being diabetic. Childhood diabetes being a prevalent thing is definitely a pretty novel thing. Type 1 is a completely different deal. You can't control your genetics. Shitty roll of the dice.

Maybe. There are some people with gout who can't do it and others who have allergies to meat. I also wonder if it ties into our ancestors and what they ate which has definitely affected our genetics

Also, I do "cheat" from time to time and vegetables make my stomach hurt now. Fruit not as much depending on what it is. Cutting out sugar has helped a lot in joint pain.
Gouts weird because once an effective treatment was identified they basically stopped researching it. If you have gout and just eat meat it will go away, you might get a flare up initially, but it will reside quicker than normal.

Also, fuck gout! :mad3:

If I eat pizza. I’m off the wagon for a minimum of a week. Pizza is my trigger food, that leads to cheeseburgers and fries. Ugh 😣

Yeah, only recently I try to pay attention to when I feel like garbage and maybe what I did the day before to might have caused it. Usually lack of sleep, but if I eat a whole pizza or have a ton of pasta I usually feel pretty lethargic the next day.

Thankfully my wife is 100% on-board. When we met 17yrs ago I was the one telling her we needed salads and other shit for a balanced diet, which she hated. She's actually the one that talked to a local holistic Dr, the one that suggested I try carnivore for my auto immune condition.
