That’s a good read.Pretty decent ammo database: Handgun Self-Defense Ammunition - Ballistic Testing Data

Yes and no. I have seen ballistic gell after the bullet has passed through other material and it’s not near as impressive. You don’t know what you are going to have to shoot through. Like Providence says “getting a hit on them first is the most important thing”. This has been proved out with statistics.
I never said I think it’s important to go through 19”.What I think is hilarious is the average person isn't 19" deep to their vitals, but guys like you think it's important that the fmj went 19" and the hp only went 12".
If you're shooting through a barrier other than clothing you're wasting ammo. You might make a good cop
The hp opens up, and cuts and dumps energy into tearing and cutting. Of course it won't penetrate as far. It's actually putting the energy to good use rather than just punching a little hole.
I’m still making up my mind. Do we all agree that a heavier grain is quieter? I havnt heard this before. (No pun intended) If true, I want quiet. The ammo seek link on the first page looks like a good place to get 1000 rinds or more.So what ammo did you decide on?
45-70 is always the answer.

I don’t understand the statement about the barrier.
Yes, I understand the mechanics of a hp.
WaterH — dunno if a heavier round is quieter. But a 147 grain is naturally subsonic. So you at least don’t have sound barrier noise.
I’m sure those are out there too. Maybe the cheap as hell 147 grain I’ve bought is just all subsonic? Or claims to be.What about all supersonic 147g 9mm ammo out there?
You guys are silly. Anyone that knows anything is carrying an AR pistol in a drop-leg holster.

When you say “hates” , do you mean jams? You'll never be able to tell until you suppress it. Doesn't really matter, use what your pistol shoots better.
My XD shoots everything pretty much exactly the same.
My X-5 hates 147s. It shoots way better with 115s and 124s.

It's not that, it's that 12 or 19 inches doesn't matter so I'm not wasting the money for HP. Little hole or not doesn't matter, most people survive getting shot so the energy to use doesn't mean jack. What I think is hilarious is the average person isn't 19" deep to their vitals, but guys like you think it's important that the fmj went 19" and the hp only went 12".

No reason not to, other than my single stack 9mm fits my pocketSo why not stick with a 22lr?
A hit is a hit. Do I have time and ability to get more than 1 on target in a dynamic environment? Most people are missing most shots, it's more ethical to bystanders to shoot them with round tipsThey're more likely to survive fmj. You've never shot a hollow point at gel and had it shrapnel all sorts of pedals that cause extra wound channels?
