What's new

Anyone running Starlink internet yet?

We just went under contract on a rural property with max 25mbps broadband speeds so we got on the beta list. Supposed to be available here mid to late this year. If the 25mbps works for us I'll probably how out but in case it doesn't I want a spot on the bus.

They got my $99 about 2 weeks ago. Expected to go live in our area between summer and winter this year I think. We are using a cell enterprise modem with a verizon sim card. It works OK most of the time. It affects decisions on what we use data for.

This cannot get here quick enough. I think my wisp sees the writing on the wall and has gone right into fuck it mode. I’m getting about .5 Mbs and 75% packet loss. If you can get someone to answer the phone they say there is a cut fiber and they're working on it. Been jacked up for a week now.

They were supposed to launch 60 more tonight but they got pushed till tomorrow. I’ll fling those bitches up there with a slingshot if it will help.

I'd imagine Hughes Net has to be shitting their pants now too. As the coverage spreads south over more of the U.S. it seems to me like it will kill OG sat internet and smaller. slower ISPs. I can't wait for it to be available at my house either

It’s going to kill a bunch of companies that we all despise. I bet in 10 years AT&T and Verizon are history too. Once he starts selling phones, it’s over.

I was told about 10% never come online. But not to worry, cause theyre sending a shitload more.

This. So much this.

I may have found the limit with Starlink

What's the upload speed like?

I'm still waiting on the preorder list. I can't hardly wait to have high speed internet at my house.

From my understanding they provide you with at the dish, wiring and modem and you provide the router. Is that correct?

Does anyone know when this will be available here in Southern TN?

I really want to get it but don't want to give them $100 right now if it is a year or more away.

Does anyone know how mobile these setups are? like when you sign up does the device get tied to a certain area/address, or can you just set it up wherever you want, assuming there is satellite coverage?

I'll try.

I did that recently and did not see any information

**EDIT** it says this now "Starlink is targeting coverage in your area in mid to late 2021."

It’s also a first come first serve basis. The 100$ gets you priority vs the person who signs up later. If that matters at all.

They say it’s tied to the service address. You would have to change that address to move it.

I watched a video on this and it’s tied to a certain grid associated with your address, so roughy 1-2 square mile area around your address. The guy who reviewed it was a Canuck and he said he got to 15k of his address and had coverage.

Hmm, damn, so for someone who wants to be a "digital nomad" a cell hotspot is probably still the best option.

Order Confirmed

Thank you for your order! You will receive a confirmation email shortly with information on what to expect next.

We will see how long it takes from this point.

I really can use it, I have spent 8 years in this hours with 3 different providers and they have all been really bad.

I live in a metro area now but this could be huge for being able to move rural. I work from home full time and a lot of places in rural CO get ruled out because they do not even have 4G/5G access ATM

Tied to address during Beta. My understanding is because they don't have full coverage yet, so to keep them pinging correctly you need to be tied. Once they get full coverage that will change is my understanding.
