Had a local guy mill the dust cover to clear, then drill and tap the BCG for the post and knob. Works great and I don't have to reach over the top or under to get to the handle. Arizona Rifle Works. He said the bolt was hard AF, and broke a couple taps doing the job.
Info/pics of the left side charging handle please. :smokin:
Here's the only other pic I have of it.

no offense, but i hate everything about that. :flipoff2::laughing:

I had an AK47 for about a minute, shot it a couple times, just really didn't like it, so when a guy wanted to trade me an Armalite heavy barrel with an ACOG on it, the Mac was gone. I know some people love all them commie guns, and I'd consider a Galil, the true AK pattern guns are just not for me.

Maybe this is more your speed. :flipoff2: Paid $100 to a guy in an Albertsons parking lot, that was teaching his bulldog to ride a skateboard.

The shotgun I ever laid hands on was a Mossberg in 16ga. Mag fed too. That's a variation I don't fully recognize

That there boy is a a gen-u-ine JC Higgins 12 ga, from Sears Roebuck back in the day. I sold it to a dude here who had the same thing in 16ga and 20ga. Seemed like a weird thing to collect, but he paid my price, so DGAF.

the squigglies in the middle is for the disconnector pulled back setting

Here’s a closer look at the markings. I also had the factory stamp added just because I could.

Finished this bulgy 74 today. Originally built on an AK Builder flat. I accidentally oversized the fcg holes just a smidge, so I put it in the back of the safe until I could rebuild it. I finally got a Childers receiver with proper Bulgarian markings and rebuilt it.

So you experienced AK nuts, what's the best accuracy you've been able to achieve with an AK?

Variation and ammo?

I’ve been experimenting with 5.45x39 hand loads, and am seeing some promising results. 1.5 moa is typical, and I’m hoping to get it right at or maybe even under 1”.

My 7.62x39 AKs only ever get bump fired into trash, so I haven’t bothered checking for accuracy.

I don't think I've ever shot an AK out past 100 or so, and it's always at a roughly center mass sized target, performs fine under those conditions.

this is my experience too, even with the PSL I just shoot at steel at 100yd with shitty surplus ammo

there was a guy on gunco that had a .223 saiga with a heavy barrel glommed on chasing varmint rifle accuracy
Was doing pretty well too, I only really remember he got better results with floppy piston than with the piston tightened against the bolt carrier

I ask because one of the guys I shoot with claims sub MOA from a 7.62 he built under the tutelage of some AK guru. Dude knows what sub MOA is, he's not some public range Fudd, but still I have my doubts, especially since he's claiming this with steel case ammo.

Odd's are hes full of shit.
Doesn't matter who built it or where, they are a minute of man rifle for the most part.

Yeah I'd have to see it to believe it.

I used that MAC in the 200yd iron sight paper plate challenge we has at the old OSR, and it mostly a waste of ammo.

I get it, they're a battle rifle, not a precision rifle.

I have seen VEPRs hold a decent group at 100 with an optic, but not sub-moa. I'd be surprised if any import 7.62x39 ammunition is even consistent enough to have a chance to hold sub-moa through any decent rifle.

I’m no ak wizard but I’ve built a few and shot some nice ones. Best groups I’ve had have been with 5.45 shooting 3moa, but an occasional flyer always lurks. An Arsenal 7.62 was almost as good and I think with the right ammo could have done better, but I still get flyers. SKS is better.

That’s interesting, and must be a lot of work. I figure if I was wanting more out of 5.45 I’d just convert to 5.56 and call it a party, but if you’re getting results I’ll look into this.

Problem with loading 5.45x39 right now is brass, which is impossible to find. Hornady was making it for a while, but I haven't seen any in a couple years. Bullet selection is also pretty non-existent. Hornady's 60gr vmax is about the only option. Lee made a sizing die for converting .223 to 5.45, but it was a limited-run die, and I haven't seen one for sale in a while. Some people take an appropriately-threaded bolt and drill/ream a hole in the center to use on their press to push bullets through.

I'm using Hornady's 5.45 dies, which can also be difficult to find. I've got a few hundred loaded up with various flavors of powder waiting on me to have time to take it to the range with a chronograph.
