I have a Con Truck lumber rack I saved from my 87 F250 standard cab that I now want to put on my 2002 F350 Crew Cab. I wasn’t aware that it wasn’t going to fit until I put it up there. It’s about 3” short of sitting on the bed rail in the front and the crossbar is sitting on the cab.
A new comparable rack for this truck is about $1000. I’m trying to use what I have and see what suggestions you have.

Fabricate something to go between the rack and bed rail, or lift the bed the 3”. I really don’t care about how it looks.

I realize it’s a standard cab rack on a CC but I didn’t figure the heights would be different.

I would extend or replace the vertical pieces of channel so they are the right length.
It’s box, but yeah I thought about that. If I’m going to that extreme I may as well just make my own.
I was thinking the quick options like adding a 2x4 to the bed rail but make it out of steel and welded to the rack. Much less work.
Maybe just sell this and put it towards a proper one.

I'd compare prices between the two.

Probably your best option.

Superduty cabs are higher. Created a huge stink with slide in campers when the SD launched in 99… 23 years ago……..

$300 and ill sell you a long bed campershell/lumber rack.

some bits of 4x4 blocking under each of the uprights to get it up above the cab wouldn't look all that outta place

It’s not the over cab length as much as the height over the cab. The newer trucks are about 4” higher so that one won’t get me what I need.
I appreciate the offer though.

I might just go this option. Full rail angle welded to 3”x3” box with the rack welded to that would look ok.
Could probably do that for $300 in material.

Hopefully they’ve figured that out by now as a camper is wanted in the future.
I never even thought about the cab height difference.
Obviously.

Sell it and buy/build one to suit ya
ETA: You'll hate that short rack over the cab, it will have tons of air disturbance and create noise.

Pretty much anything will work. You've over thinking this.

You realise that is a 99 superduty right?
I actually didn’t notice and was focused on what you said about cab over length. One of the things I like about this rack is it’s forklift loadable.
Most aren’t.
I actually found the guy who built this one and he’s fabbing me a proper one.

uh... that's on a superduty... it's exactly what you need.
