85 Xtra Cab Evolution

look n good bud,

so did i see correct you had to extend the frame lower? and made the link mounts that bad ass.

and how far did you have to go below the factory frame, 2" or 2.5"?

The subframe is 2.75 " below the frame rails. It helped to lower the truck all around along with raising the upper coilover mounts front and rear..

Yep 3/16. The cross members between the rails are adjustable. The interior brackets that bolt to the subframe can be moved in 4" increments for different mounting locations.

I pulled the trigger a few weeks back and bought a set of 40/13.5/17 SX2 Stickies. Found a deal on some Vision Manx bead locks. Shiny wheels and fresh rubber is always fun. Let’s see if the tires work as well as the original SX sticky and the 39” Reds I replaced. Should get to test them out in a few weeks at K2 in Mason Tx.

bump for more turbo noises... Stoked to see how you like the rz and boost. I'll be taking notes

After the last couple of trips out I've added a few more things to the to do list:

New solid motor mounts
Replumb the steering reservoir feed line to the pump
Replace the torched downstream O2 sensor
Rework exhaust
Clean up the wiring better from the engine swap
Inboard the front and rear lower links. Front steering angle sucks and rear needs clearance if I end up going rear steer.

Picked up 4 sticks of 1.75 .120wt DOM. Cab will leave the chat soon..
I may start building a 9" or 609 axle. The 14b is a rock magnet and digs a ditch everywhere it goes.
Not sure if I want to spend that kind of $$ yet.

I need to finish the 86 cab swap onto the 96 Tacoma first to clear out some room in my garage.

How do you like the SX2 stickies? Any idea how they compare to the 43 SX stickies? The 43 SX seem to be the standard in my part of the country.

Not too sure. I wanted some SXs but don’t have the room in the front without some major surgery. I’ll keep running them and let my buddy the_white_shadow give the comparison and our other buddy just bought a set of the 42 SX2 sickies. They seem softer than the SXs but that doesn’t necessarily make them better. The rubber compounds are different between the 2. The SX rubber recipe is under lock and key and is not provided to the manufacturer overseas.
