What's new

2nd Gen Dodge Ram 2500 Upgrades.

Finding non-rotted Dodge axles isn't easy here. Yes, my friends David and Rachel Plumley came up with that.

Are you saying that 92-97 F350 outers fit my current 2002 axle? If so, that is new.

combined with this:

and never fuck with it again.

No, why I said buy a 94-99 axle. People damn near give them away, but i guess they're rotted to nothing along with everything else up there.

Synergy is over priced. Just buy the 98-99 HD steering.

Anyone done the brake up grades?

or swapped Gen 3 axles?

It's a bolt on affair, last I bought the brackets were ~$25 each on rockauto. Then new calipers. It's the way to go if you need new brakes.

AAM axles gain you nothing.

Why do I want to go backwards in steering angles/linkages?

According to that link I posted, I don't need new calipers. They're the same.

98-99 “HD” OEM steering is t-inverted

That is new to me, too. So less bump steer. Why did they go away with it, then back to it? Dodge is fucked.

Are we sure it will fit my 2001 truck front? They have a different tie rod taper: Years 00-13: have a 9.5 taper

I know, right!

Dodge/Ram finally figured it out in ~2015.

The 08.5+ is the "upgrade" for the earlier aam trucks.

IIRC. The pitman arm is different on the 01.5-02 trucks to accept the 98HD draglink.

Theres a way to get good steering on the truck for half the price of synergy. It's well documented, I just dont remember the recipe

I found it:

Napa Part Numbers
269-6096 Drag Link
ES-3496 L Outer T rod end
269-6095 Right Out T Rod end
269-3179 Right Inn T Rod end
269-6099 Right Out T Rod
ES-2012-S Adj Sleve

Thanks.

Whelp, since my front tires are roasted, and 450.00 a piece, I found 17" Dodge 5 spoke aluminum rims with 35x12.5X17 General Grabbers on them for 800.00. Looking for one rim/tire for a spare. I guess I can clear the bigger brakes too. Might as well go for better rotors and pads.

I am currently running 315/75R16's on factory Dodge aluminum rims. Have 3 that are perfect, 2 that are outer edged... sucks.

Oh and I asked about AAM axles to get the better steering, CAD and rust delete + better brakes. My truck has both ends full of shitty 60's that I feel like I am turd polishing.

I found a 2011 power wagon pair with the e-lockers to boot. Not sure if the link mounts line up with my frame though. I do have a 3rd gen track bar mount welded on the front already.

Yes. You need the caliper bracket and rotors as long as you have a 2000 to 2002 axle.

I did it on my 01. It wasn't a huge difference but did help a little with 37s. You also have to run a 17" wheel.

Yeah, I found used 17" wheels with good tires, so that's cheaper than replacing my two roached ones.

Everyone says I need new pads, too... which is odd.

I found all the stuff... and then a powder coated Power Stop kit for 200 more. Wondering if it's worth it?

I know I am a little late, but what about upgrading to a 05+ SD front axle? I am not sure how close it is, but I have seen folks swap the SD steering onto the dodge axles. If spring buckets are similar width, I think it would be fairly easy to swap.

I was talking with PIG from Synergy/Poly yesterday about this.

I don't think they're the same width at the spring buckets, but it's something I am going to look into, in a bit. I plan to keep this truck.

If I did that I'd swap in the matching rear axle too. I have a 4.30 E locker pair out back.

For those that are inquiring, I have the shitty rear 60 that eats pinion bearings and leaks like a sieve.

Once I have the axles/brakes sorted, I plan to do something about my dash:

I have a Geno's dash top and bezel in the truck that squeaks and drives me nuts.

I currently have a broken bezel in mine, and the replacement dash top squeaks too. Apparently covering and all the duct tape didnt fix it like they said a decade ago... Following cuz I will need a solution at some point.

For some reason, when I click that link or copy&paste, it takes me to a thread about a cummins swapped chevy.

All that work, and has still has the column shifter in place

Turd polishing. 1480 U joints, CAD delete, EMF ball joints, Synergy steering. Fuck the haters, PIG's a friend.

Didn’t knew they have that crazy neck-down. Has to be a 00-02 thing. My 97 wasn’t like that.

32 or 35 spline inners?

So, as I said, have the new EMF ball joints in, along with new Spicer ujoints, plus a CAD delete. Drove it on the old alignment, and oi boy does it not want to return to center... that's with 2 degrees of caster per factory spec... and EMF says: "CASTER SET TO 4.0-5.0 DEGREES AND 0.15-0.2 TOE IN FOR 2000-2013 VEHICLES"

We did also tighten the shit out of Cardone reman'd box that went in 2 years ago.

Got the Synergy steering today FedEx'd today. Will install later today and send it off for alignment.

Dropped the truck for alignment after sticking all the HD and expensive shit in.

The front axle has some major camber issues I hope they can adjust out of the EMF ball joints.

So, right side lower ball joint won't adjust on the vehicle. Have to go back into it.

Also, they call for 4 -5 degrees of caster. Can get 3.4 degrees max with the lower control arm axle side adjuster bolts.

I've seen all the adjustable control arms, I already made my bent ones. Anyone put a second set of adjuster bolts on the upper control arms?

So, I finally got this right, yesterday. Believe it or not, TOO MUCH GREASE caused the joints to bind up.

My son used our electric grease gun and bound them up.

Holy fuck, it's like a new truck.

Now to get it the 4-5 degrees of caster the EMF directions call for.

You may have already found out...
But I did this on my 2002.5 and it was a bolt in affair. I had one of the rare 2002+ Non cad axles

Other than a loose front drive shaft causing a vibe at 25 and 50, it's night and day difference.

80mph is a dream.

Next will be 2005 brakes.
