I've always loved this body style. Buddy of mine had one needing a salvage title, cheap.

I ended up grabbing it and doing a basic restoration on it. It's not a heavy hauler, so no need for a Cummins.

Funny thing, I ended up doing most of the body panels, the front and rear axles, transfer case and engine.

Then painted it.

We did a rocker and cab corner on it... and replaced the wheels.

Oh and I had to have it inspected for the salvage title.

Of course, it's decided to throw a PO455 code. We replaced the entire evap system, still throwing the code.

The magnum 5.9L got a cam, headers and a real dual exhaust in stainless.

So, anyone know why my evap system purge valve is staying open all the time?

We smoked it, no leaks.

Had this issue before. Replaced solenoid, canister. Was the pcm. I have found on my 99 that if there is a running issue or random emissions cel, I have to replace the pcm. I’ve put 6 in it I think.

Yeah, that was my concern, blown pin in the pcm.
How bad was doing the rocker and cab corner? I need to do that to both sides of my 1997 extended cab
Not bad. Done a few of them.

Cool truck. What did you put in it for a cam? I had a beefed up 95 but I was limited to the mopar pcm(obd1).
Do you have access to a scan tool that can test/cycle the purge valve?

That’s a pretty big cam. Maybe it doesn’t pull enough vacuum for the evap to work right haha. Did you put a converter in it too? I had a 2800 in mine and I wasn’t a fan of it. SCT tuned?

I have a converter in it, yes. 4.10 gears, too

I don't need vacuum for brakes, have hydroboost, but evap worked for 9k miles before deciding to take a shit.

I agree with others, I think it's the PCM.

Tuned by me with HPTuners.

I ordered a new PCM. The purge valve was not getting a close signal from it.

Well, went to replace the PCM... and found the broken lock clips on the harness allowed the harness to back out a bit, causing a bit of schmuck.

I guess I have a spare PCM now.

Not a bad thing in my opinion. A lot of PCMs are getting discontinued and are unavailable now. Some can't even be rebuilt due to the chips for them no longer being manufactured. If the computer in my '88 Ramcharger ever dies, I will have to go aftermarket EFI to keep it on the road.

Having it NHOU coated.

If this ever becomes an issue for me, I will just go Holley EFI on it.

So, really interesting thought crossed my mind today.

I have this truck, with a decent 5.9L, non-built 47RE and NP241 DHD in it.

I also a a 450hp VE Pumped Cummins, built 47RH and NP205 sitting here... along with a Dodge Dana 80 with the VSS in it.

It would be one hell of a fix for shitty ECM designs.

Yo, new to the forum here but wanted to ask you what all have you done to your trans to handle the 450 horses, if anything? I just got a rebuilt 47re, not the hydraulic one, from these guys 47RE Transmission Replacements | New, Used, & Rebuilt per a couple of recommendations and looking for someone with experience putting a little power through these transmissions on what I need to do so it won't blow up on me, lol. I'm shooting for around the same power 450-500 eventually

I'd do a converter, valve body, deep pan, valve body, one heck of a trans cooler and some really good tuning, keep in mind, mine is a hydraulic controlled trans, so less electronics. Talk to Gorend. They will probably suggest some billet pieces. I am no transmission guru.

So, 7K miles on the metric 35's and the front outer edges are wiped.

Ball joints were done... and I guess need to be done again?

Any upgrades to prevent doing them again in less than a year?

94-99 axle with 99-04 SD outers.

Or 92-97 F350 outers, your choice.

Haven't been hearing good things about them lately, when we did my brother in laws '03 duramax (slightly different situation) we used terraflex with poor results.

If I was to do it again (and what I use at work) I'd use napa premium.

Finding non-rotted Dodge axles isn't easy here. Yes, my friends David and Rachel Plumley came up with that.

Are you saying that 92-97 F350 outers fit my current 2002 axle? If so, that is new.

I am thinking about these:

combined with this:

and never fuck with it again.
