What's new

2024 Wildfire season. :(

Etyler2 Did you visit my house... I'm at the same stage:lmao: Well, I've got gas but should have more... I've got ~4 days worth right now.

My little generator hasn't had the spark plug replaced but I did an oil change this year. But that sucker has been 'bullet proof' for a Harbor Freight unit. Last winter, I ran it 7 days straight just doing direct gas dumps in the tank while it was running:homer:

Fawk. 4 hours from home and the power just went out. Going to have to walk my wife through getting the portable gen set up.

Never going to hear the end of this one. Have a whole house gen waiting for me to install for a few years now….
should be good now

only 12 left without power.

See if SMUD, which I'm assuming is your provider, does the meter sockets with the gen plug built in like PGE does. That's what we did for my dad's house.
I’ve looked at those, that would be a crazy easy fix if SMUD will go for it 🤞🏻

Now I need to see if I can get ahold of an actual human to ask them :shaking:

It was on when she got home a couple hours after she got the notice it was off. My bags of Sonic ice in the chest freezer were still pebbles so I guess it wasn’t out too long here.

Back to the Park Fire, I was in the smoke north of it today and couldn’t see a column. On my way south passing through Redding and Red Bluff around 4-4:30, the column looked like it was getting bad again, but I honestly haven’t been paying attention to it much.

I certainly wasn’t planning on round tripping three mountain sites today in Fall River Mills, Burney and Round Mountain….

Wife does have her own 2200W inverter gen she can fire and hook up herself to run her office and the fridge. Which brings up Fail #2. It needs a new spark plug and an oil change.

Headed to the shop now to work on it. And I don’t have much gas here for Fail #3.
First gen was a used gas model. When it threw a rod I replaced it with a dual fuel. Then this year I added a dual fuel inverter for the trailer. I have only run propane in the dual fuels. I want to replace the blown motor with a dual fuel engine eventually.

A few summers ago it seems like every time I turned around someone was giving me a bbq (20# ?) propane tank. I have five that are in reserve :emb:

Frustrating that Watch Duty is so slow updating the Crozier Fire.

It’s looking really active from my POV.

You can see 910 and 210 pulling out of a drop in this pic.

I'm a little over a mile from where it started, last night I went to the top of my property and the glow from my side was dimmer. They have kept the fire inside the retardant lines so far.

Hopefully they get it under control soon!

I agree it is looking better

912 is over Folsom Lake right now and 910, 4 minutes behind him, 210 another 4 back as well

Slate Mountain Lookout is in the middle of mountain, the fire is on the other side of ridge and beyond. Most the airdrops are near Deerview and Soapweed.

For those not familiar with the area, this was October 2020 sitting at the foundation of the demo’d Slate Mountain Lookout, looking over Finnon Lake in Swansboro.

and you thought the power going out yesterday was a fluke?

he is just reminding you who is in control :lmao:
Well the meter wouldn't be that had to hack :lmao:
902-928MHz Mesh Network - Buzz the meter and set from CLS to OPN.....

Not that I would do it, but it can be done by PG&E, and probably the boogie man :lmao:

Ooooooh, that 3 letter agency!

Mountain-Dweller Can you hook a brotha up with a key? Mine disappeared years ago and the new peeps I work with there now are stingy!

Are you guys not in a mandatory evac?
I am in the Volcanoville manditory evac area. If I didn't have to work today and tomorrow, I would have just stayed home. Zero danger at close to 10 miles north in my opinion.

But work worked so I packed the animals at 5am this morning and headed to Placerville. I wrapped up work and returned. Currently enjoying some guacamole and a nice creek view.

I got an email that is hinting at no manditory evac by Sunday.

Looking a lot better today, just a few hotspots.
Hopefully by tomorrow they lift the Mandatory Evacuation to just Warning.

No glow on my side of the fire last night, but there was a cabin fire within half a mile of me that was put out quickly with all the staff & equipment on hand.

Seems suspicious but maybe just an unattended electric device or something?

They just opened up northern evac stuff. Doesn't do me any good because fuck Sunday Tahoe traffic.:barf:

I'll probably pack up tomorrow afternoon to head to BFE. The dogs will be happy since they can't figure out the five fold increase in traffic:lmao:

Sadly, coworker is still dealing with manditory evac of eastern Garden Valley.

I ran into town to put gas in Mrs car and run it through the car wash. Then I got a few things for dinner.

Next thing I know I have a three fire engine escort heading home

Yet another fire in the Meiss and Ione road area.

I saw 210 fly overhead here and Flight Radar showed it made a quick round trip over that area, but no circles.

Good luck guys!

I just now cut down 10 healthy lodgepole pines for mitigation. I sure hate doing that, but feel it's going to help in the future.
I have marked 20 trees to come down this winter as well.

dont want to do it now as
A a big pile of slash gets me nervous during fire season
B it attracts bark beetles this time of year and then they go after the heathy trees as well.

I have another 20 dead trees I cut down a couple years ago I need to get rid of (branches are already burned)
I also pulled out about 100 bushes. Manzanita and whitethorn. will double that by mid winter.

then another ten trees limbed to the 30 foot line.

I didn’t know which tanker it was at the time, but I saw it pass me and the three rigs on Jackson heading that way.

Do those guys sit on the tarmac idling waiting for a call? I have never seen a bomber beat a ground crew to a fire before :grinpimp:
