What's new

2000 GMC W4500

Gin Pole works well. This is just set up. We added grade 8 chains to take the load off the winch and a 1T chain fall.

Lifted a Cat 3208 and Allison like it was not there.

I'm surprised it has an engine brake. I ran one of those with a Tymco vac sweeper on it. Was all it could do to hold 55-60 on the highway on the flat. Any hills and it was doing 35-40mph at best. Not sure what the sweeper stuff weighs. 4 cylinder pony engine, the vac bits and a small hopper as well as ~200 gallons of water.

Sounds like yours was neutered or was the 4.8L gasser.

This is a 4.8L Turbo Diesel, like the 4BTs but with more displacement, from Isuzu. 5 speed auto trans, too. People are turning them up to good HP/TQ numbers reliably.

I had the 7K lb K5 on the back of it, up and down hills, didn't matter, 65mph with my foot to the floor with all factory settings.

They are a great engine. I've never seen one blown up and I worked at an isuzu dealer.

I've currently got a 350 gas job npr box truck. Goes ok with a load but drinks gas to do it.

The pre emissions isuzu's are some of the best work trucks made. I'll never buy a pickup over one of these. Dollar to capabilites can't be beat.

Well, pretty sure I see you Friday for this, :flipoff2:

rattle your fillings out yet?
Hell nawp. We've driven it about 30K miles all over New England, getting axles and engines, delivering Volvos/Blazers.

I will be sad to see it go, but our new trucks are finally coming in, at the right prices and as full tax deductions from last year.

Dethmachinefab wanted one, so this goes to him.

Diesel, Iszoozoo engine, not sure the displacement though.

some of the older isuzus you could get deutz air cooled motors in them

I'd be all over one of them, (not to say I'd ever turn down a reasonably priced isuzu 4bd2

So this little trucks joined my fleet. Going to pull the flat bed, fix some bits on the cab and have it painted. Clean and paint frame rails, doing the best I can to keep rust away because this is one of the few remaining solid pre emissions trucks left in the northeast.

The new crane is arriving next week, a remote control palfinger pc 3800. I'll need to build a mount and outriggers. New steel flat bed needs to be built. Will make as low as possible.

Here's the crane.

4400lb capacity when retracted, 1600lb when extended to 15'. 2 hydraulic extensions, one manual. In that black box is the valve block and rc parts. Have an unused spool available the block too, so that's cool.

I think I'm going to run a clutch pump off the engine instead of a pto. Crane calls for 3.2 gpm.

I'm late to the party. Source up some of the o rings for the fuel lines and throw them in the glove box. These trucks use rubber instead of copper washers and they don't last. If you ever see drips under the truck 99% chance it's them. Our diesel has 175k on it and that's really the only memorable repair I can think of

Ah, so it's got those little packing donuts on the low pressure stuff.

And this is off to Dethmachinefab.

My friend Vas hauled it to him. I miss it already.

As for the bike roller, he's going to finish off his fab work (wheels and brakes) and send it back to me.

I can't wait to finish it and ride it.

It's here. First step is to yank the flat bed because it's not going to work for the crane. Then tidy up the chassis in back where it's spliced, and do a new formed steel bumper. Needs a little body work to get to ready to be painted. While doing this stuff I need to figure out and order a pto set up for powering the crane.

oh no I've seen this video before

I can sense the front porch with dangly chains, bright colors and triple frame already. :p

Flat bed will work for me... and we've already had that conversation.
And yeah, was not happy with the PO's frame extension. Glad you're fixing it. The scabs we did will work, but they're not pretty.

Na no brodozer stuff, just utility. I do want this to be a decent truck though and will try to put the effort into it, mostly for long-term sake. Pre emissions stuff is getting harder to find.

I like those trucks, other than brakes they handle BDL's well. Although I would try to improve airflow to the rad, I don't like hearing the fan roaring when I'm doing 70mph.

Is it a bdl if it handles it well?

They are great trucks. I prefer them to buying an overpriced and lesser capacity pickup.
