Moving from the garage sale thread…

Wanted fill out the Pokémon collection. Picked up this very well built regular can a few weeks ago… joins the xtracab that I’ve had for about 13 years and the dd doublecab.

Supercharged 3rz, 5 speed, atlas 5.0, TG 609’s with air lockers. Modified TG 3-link up front and 63” deavers out back. Rear suspension is the weirdest part of the build. Outboarded and tension shackles. Shocks mounted on the spring plate up through the inner wheel wells… air bumps hit on spring behind the bolt plate. I’ve never seen anything like it, and I’ve yet to hear a good reason for it. But I’m not changing it anytime soon.

Nice. I wanted to supercharge my first gen Taco but I never saw anyone get it completely right. '97 std cab w/V6. Still has less than 80K miles on it. Pretty much bone stock except the 2" lift/f&r ARBs/ARB bumper + 9K Warn and cheap steelies.

my xtracab has been supercharged for ~16 years-ish. Has 7th injector and SplitSecond piggy back. It runs great, but a tad lean. I just need to get the tune richened up a bit.

There's a guy on one of the tacoma sites that has a 1st gen reg-cab V6/5-speed with ~750K super charged miles. Pretty sure he's running a standalone system now. My 3rz has injectors, fuel pump and Haltech computer.... which I have yet to figure out.

Rear suspension is legit

I need to do some flexing. I’m fairly confident the shocks will bottom out long before the bumps….

Quality of work is solid… just not sure about the design. Actually started to do some measuring to see if I could do a spring under with these leafs in the “normal” config….

Or just move the shocks?

Tension shackles are good for more travel with out a long ass shackle.

Move the lower shock mount so it mounts to the front of the axle tube, move the airbumps so they land on the spring plate and then (not) wheel it!

That’s the correct thing to do… eventually…. Leaving it for now.

Waiting on a couple of small parts and this should be on the road

Eventually. I’m surprised they didn’t plate the frame. They went through a lot of work to put the shocks where they are…. Including body working the fender wells and modifying the Marlin rear bumper to mount inside the frame instead of outside

Like I said - a setup I’ve never seen before. Not bad, but definitely different.

Can I ask a favor? What is the measurement between the axle tube and bottom of frame in the current config?
I am needing to replace the 63’s on my double cab and looking at the deavers. I need a little more height, not sure which spring is my best option (their spring over or under packs)

~15.25" Driver, ~15.75" passenger. It has a pronounced lean.

That guy has a water injection system too-

bump onto spring is no good.

everything about that rear setup makes me scratch my head

this thread is also not helping me desire for another std cab 1st gen

I suspect the intent was to compensate for the topper and RTT??? But who knows?

f67s and the 12" shackle on the top of the frame from TC is a much simpler approach than using what i suspect is 2nd or 3rd gen parts from dirt king

When I saw the pics, the first thing that came to my mind was "a 2nd gen Tacoma owner built that"

PO owns a 3rd gen - it's stock though.

I'm really confused why they would put bumps on the rear... but not on the front.

The sliders also only cover the cab - not the bed - and I can't figure out an easy way to lengthen them because of the outboarded spring hanger.

he should of just added the following to his cart

to be fair to the PO... This was built by a very reputable shop in the NE.... I don't know if he did the design or if they did. 🤷

Clearly:flipoff2:

JK on the scale of PO pre built truck hackery, this isn't bad!

Bumps in the rear first is super weird.

For the sliders, cut them off and install some trail gear weld ons? Can't beat them for the price IMO

No standard slider design will work because of the outboarded front hanger... I have some ideas, but low on the priority list.

Ahhh the front rear hangar.

Didn't you used to own a fab shop?? Should be easy to burn new sliders on there:flipoff2:

Uber low priority. Probably will just get an angled boxed tube extension…. Eventually.
