What's new

1st gen Tacoma Reg cab

I didn't know this would have so many fans... It might have to get it's own instagram account... :flipoff2:
I'm jealous, I want a 1st gen reg cab. There is a perfect looking 1st gen, reg cab, 5spd V6 around here that I want to buy the second it comes up for sale. The only way I know it's a stick is because the owner takes forever to shift gear, and fingers crossed it isn't a tailgate sale because the tailgate says V6 lol!!:lmao:

This place is slow enough that basically anything is interesting
I'll have some content soon, I have been planning a flat belly strategy for mine after the most recent trip where I knocked a chunk off the trans with a rock:laughing:

ok... here's some tech...

Engine has a Haltech computer with what appears to be an additional 4-wire O2 sensor... I want to put an A/F gauge in the truck... Don't really have room for another 02 sensor... can I tap the existing 4-wire 02? Or is that a bad idea?

Sure you can. As long as the wires to the gauge don’t short out and cause the input to the ECU to crap out.

Sounds an awful lot like “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should….”

🤣 truth. It’s possible but it’s not the best idea.

Does the ECU not have an output. To run a digital display or gauge for AFR?

Don’t know… I have to dig it out from behind the glovebox and check.

Also curious if I can reuse the factory o2 bung, if the haltech is only using the wide band…. Will have to trace wires, etc…

Waiting on a couple of minor parts to arrive...

I did rip the glovebox out this weekend. Found the Haltech 550 ECM and Wide Band controller. Not a horrible setup. Haltech uses a small pigtail to connect their ECM to the factory harness. Appears to be only 3 spliced wires in total.

Sent Haltech an email asking for guidance on the AFR gauge...

URD short throw shifter installed. Super easy to install... Though I spent 2 hours messing w/ the Atlas shifter cables after the fact - just not much room in that trans tunnel for both...

Aaaaand.... both diffs started leaking at the lower diff bolt I used to drain the oil. My fault... I didn't get them clean enough for sealant to... seal.

Dag blasted...

Credit to the MFG for asking me to send it back to have it corrected. This is the last "part" that I've been waiting on... Still waiting on Haltech to respond to my question about the AFR.

Likely will be redoing the exhaust. Loud AF...

Well... finally figured this out.

And dropped a stupid amount of money on a Haltech Can gauge that is plug-n-play with the wide-band controller.

It hurt to punch in the cc#... but not nearly as much as it would hurt to damage the controller or ECU... :homer:

Having a computer in the barn is great for looking up stuff…. But horrible for my wallet

I'm officially over budget on this thing.... In a moment of weakness, took advantage of All-Pro's sales and order some real sliders....
I did that AFTER pushing in the extra cab on mine and coming down on a stump vertically on the pinch weld on the other side. :homer:

Sliders arrived today. Pretty sure I’ll have to do some mods to the rear leg to deal with the spring hanger.

Still waiting on Haltech….

I had been thinking it would be cool to have a service box like Dan and his Trashee build.

Found this thing about 80 miles away. Probably get it for $200. It’s said to fit a Toyota mini truck up to 95. So things should be pretty close. Needs some work, but may be a fun project?

Of course, I also found a right tyoe, right color, right price fiberglass topper about equidistance in the opposite direction…. Decisions

Buddy in our group (yodaman for those who have seen the rig) ran basically a service bed for years. It's really awesome for storing tools, parts, or in his case an inverter, blender and mix drink ingredients

But, it is easy to get really heavy. Guess it just depends on what you're going for.

Mostly the unique factor. Sent the gentleman a message to see if he could send me some dimensions. Would be interesting if there’s enough room for a 38” tire to lay down in the bed….

I believe fullsize service beds are 48" inside. So is a Toyota 10" narrower than a fullsize?

If anything it might squeeze in there flat and you can air it up to wedge it in

Could be. A 38" will fit fine between the wheelwells of a tacoma... So would be nice if it fit in a service box as well.

Saw a video of the box - it's rough. Fixable, but rough. And it would force me to change the rear shock mounting.

Fuckin hell I want one of those for my Ranger :flipoff2:

same here. Been looking for one for a while. I I found a Pack Rat bed toolbox that I am going to try and add some side storage too on my 86/96 build. That is if it doesn't look too bad. I need to get a box and see how it fits on the bed tool box.
