.17 hmr, to ar or bolt action?

I was having a hard time between the AR upper and a bolt. Picked up the little Tikka today. Gonna be the new garage gun because the old 22 went out to the barn. Think this is going to be fun.

Few years back I double lunged a crop damage deer at 170 yards with a buddys 17. Went 40 yards. Wanted one ever since but couldn't satisfy myself with anything less than that Cooper til I actually "needed" a 17.
 
If I’m buying ammo in person I get it on Firearms Friday at the same place I buy socks, pvc glue, and dog food.

First out of the box shoots (20), center low but 50c group of 8/10. @50y
Upper left started walkong the scope up & over
Upper right. @ 60y
Lower right. @ 70y
Lower left . Walking the scope in and having a few ftf issues.

Didnt notice much of a difference between cci 17g and the hornady 20g.


After about 60r it stuffed and pinched this round and i think some of the powder got in the chamber and was holding it open a hair. Cleared it out and fired another 20r.

A bit louder than i was expecting but shoots better than i can.

Have not messed much with the 20gr stuff. My savage liked the cci hollow points:shaking:, an my CZ liked everything. Which is good, because the 17gr vmax is the easiest to find:laughing:


Smack an animal or two with that thing and it will surprise you. Way more whoopow than a 22lr:grinpimp:
 
I did some thinking and found some parts in my bin so i added a long pit rail to the bottom and the rubber pad from an old quad rail to the bottom of the handgaurd so when i rest it on the partialy open truck window i dont fuck something up.

Quick pop the rubber off and the bipod clips right on in its place.
 
Everything i found around here is $20-22/50.
Found a not so local place thats $75/200 so its a decent price.

I tried a place out of fl that was the same $14/50 but never got a responce from them.
 
The little Tikka got it's first ground hog the other day. 50 yards at the corner of the wood pile. Could just see it's face sticking above the grass. Damn that 17gr is brutal.:smokin:

You get up to medford area very often?
