What's new

.17 hmr, to ar or bolt action?

Thats just dumb. Can snag a winchester for a bunch less....
Yep, looks like they've been trending around $900. There's a few more for sale, searching "96 17" instead of "96/17" gives a few more results. Their current bids are between $700 and $900. Still nuts considering that was a <$300 rifle when new. There was one NIB that recently sold for $1700 though. Nutty.

The mags only have 4 tabs keeping the sides from spreading. A center punch will get them a lil farther down the road. But I would consider the mags to be a consumable part

Couldn't one just tack each tab with a TIG or even a MIG easily enough? Or is it composed of Mithril or Adamantium (or some other element unknown to the Federation)?

So which one is that?

Bca is on par with the savage $
Alexander arms is retard $
Discontinued Garrow Firearms Development, It's gas operated.

Personally if I already had a lower receiver I would buy a ar17 upper, less hoops to jump through.

I'm sure you could. When I was actually using that rifle, I didnt have access to a welder.

Anybody play with the 17 hornet much?
Yes and I love it!
I actually sold my 17 HMR to fund my Hornet.
It's an awesome flat shooting round. I have a Ruger 77/17 with 24" barrel and with my hand loads at 100 yards my 5 shot groups can be covered with a dime.
I love the 17 calibers so much I built an AR in 17 Remington. I'm in the process of working up loads for that now.

Amazing how many folks dont shoot offhand or even off the truck mirror or hood anymore.
So im r/h and it reallllllllllyy sucks sitting in the pass seat so i drove.
Buddy is l/h and l/h rifle so it worked out perfect.

And it was great shooting off the mirror till the stupid thing would tilt.

You need a rhd jeep. Perfect for road side hunting.

Fuck dude idk what to do.

You guys and fb mostly say the savage
Then i found some guys that actualy have the bca ar15 setup and they like them just as much.

Fwiw right now the ar15 with A scope is less than the savage is alone and no fees or paper work. And its really hard to not be ordering it.

Am trying to hold off to finalize some cash coming in and get my cc down for something else, but waiting will cost me an extra $100. On the otherhand if i buy anything i have to get totalgirlfriend a lever action 410.

Dammit.

Get her the .410 first because then she will feel generous and do things the savage and bca can’t do. Then wait a little while and get a CZ.

This is a win win situation.

Buying an AR upper makes sense. I still prefer a bolt gun.

I would buy a ruger american over a savage.

I would also buy a CZ, Tikka, or a used ruger m77 over everything else in that price range.

I had a Marlin xt-17 with the hardwood stock. Damn thing was a tack driver.

Hawke vantage 17hmr 4-16x50. Uses 10rd blackdog mags, same as the bca. They are the same profile as a .223 20rd, they are available in 10 & 14rd.

That scope mounting makes me want to make fun of you.

Another benefit of the ar is trigger selection. Mine has a hyperfirer 3g.

Meh, it doesnt take a lot of work to make something decent out of a trigger on most bolt guns.

Only worked on one AR trigger so far. And that was before I learned how they work. It came out pretty good, but got interesting once it got dirty:homer: Bought a bag of Larue's to get me rolling, but I'm wanting to hack up another factory trigger. Just to see:laughing:

Problem is most AR "mil spec" triggers are only case hardened, so if you blow through the layer it's going to wear out. By the time you re-harden them its not usually worth the time.

I believe it. I still enjoy tinkering with stuff like that.

The point I was getting at is there is more than a couple of selections for trigger parts. There is a pretty low chance of everybody being oos. The hyperfire design is cool because increasing hammer force decreases trigger pull, 17hmr 22wmr do not like light hammer springs due to their thick cases.

It's a Garrow Firearms Development upper. I probably have over 1k rounds through it. Good so far...
So just for shits n giggles i poked the internet and found a article on pewpew tactical says garrow had a mfg and finacial issue and was fully defunct. :(

But in that artical it mentions another company, inland manufacturing posted a new upper with the same gas opperated system in '22. Looking at their site it doesnt seem to have come to fruition. :( :(
