Big Dumb Loads

Stand them up like Cadillac ranch except above ground.

I scabbed that receiver thing in there with ****box flat towing in mind & handled it well.
Farmer fab triaxle trailer shaped scrap metal plus most of a super duty was almost too much.

Thats what I was thinking but not sure. Im guessing that is minimum for a GN so my 5.5 ft bed won't work.
I have a B&W gooseneck hitch in my 2023 F-150. It’s a tremor package with dual exhaust. The only issue was clearing the exhaust.

I use it regularly. Power is reasonable. Trailer brakes are mandatory.

I removed the lift blocks and added airbags. Without bags this truck is useless with a trailer. With bags, the ride is pretty bad.

Conclusion, buy a 3/4 ton again next time.

Jack that **** back up over center. You'll be fine.

How plush is that compared to stock?
With Thuren coils, Sway Bar and Kings,
huge improvement!

At almost 9000 lbs and my budget, it’s not ever going to feel as plush as a 1/2 ton. When I first set it up, I went with more of a highway valving on the shocks. It was incredible but the problem is you end up driving faster so you bottom out on unexpected hit.

I ended up adding valving to the shocks for more of a sporty feel that likes a little speed!

Not big but dumb. My buddy borrowed my trailer (yes, this is always how the story goes) to go pick up his mint condition CJ5, restored in 1995, powder coated frame, new everything, been sitting in a climate controlled garage since he moved to the US. Mom passed away so he sold the house where it was stored.

Grabs my trailer, goes to Lower Niagara, gets stopped at the border for no trailer plate. Must have fallen off or something. Truck gets searched, trailer gets inspected, gets through the door to syrup sucking hockey land.

This is a Kaufman 10k trailer, 2 5/16 clamshell style coupler, I take decent care of it, bearings checked and greased before every big trip, has tire sensors on it, painted all the same color, it's not sketchy.

So he runs around up there for a couple days and loads the Jeep to come home. Blows a bearing, it happens, swaps on the spare and he's on his way. Unloads the Jeep and brings the trailer back.

I go to park it in my yard and feel it clunk on the ball, It never clunks. I've had it 15 years, never heard it make any noise.

So I go to unhook it and the clamshell is open with the collar jammed against the back of it. He just jammed the collar latch down and pinned it. Somehow the safety chain is on top of the hitch, in front of the ball but under the trailer coupler. That thing went 1500 miles to Canada and back and drove all around town and never came off the ball.

Your buddy has particularly good karma or good luck one of the two

He is the most positive, zero ****s given, tough as nails, absolute clutz person I've ever met. He's always bleeding from some sort of stubbed toe or scraped shin. I'm going with karma I guess. Dude got upended and slammed into the boards playing hockey, out cold, carted off on a stretcher and straight to the hospital in an ambulance on a Monday night. Tuesday night his hockey buddy is walking down the docks and asks us how he's doing because last he saw him he was loading into the gut bucket with the lights on disco mode. 5 minutes later, dude is walking down the dock, 23 beers in a cooler, one in hand, wondering why we are looking at him funny and asking if he's ok. Because Canadian I guess. Karma and Luck favor the tough.

Do semi-trucks have a way to apply the trailer brakes like in a pickup truck?

I drive air-brake firetrucks all the time, but we don't pull trailers......so my knowledge of how air-brake trailers work is lacking.

Depends. If the company is too cheap, they will delete the option at the time of purchase to save something like $135 per truck.

Why delete it though? Don't trust steering wheel holders not to drag the trailer around empty with the brake set?

There are three primary reasons:

1. Purchasing/Leasing the absolute cheapest truck possible.

2. Owner/ Lease Operators pay for their tractor's maintenance and would be more likely to use the Johnny Bar to hold the truck back going down grades, burning the company's trailer brakes up.

3. Trainees don't need anything else to distract them from the basics they were taught in school.
