Pulling together Big Dumb Loads and all the recent love for half-tons and undersized trucks.

Where’s the line between “big and dumb” and “give’r hell”?

If no axle weights are exceeded, truck or trailer, and there is appropriate tongue weight, and oil and trans and coolant temps stay appropriate, party on?

Strict adherence to “manufacturer’s tow rating?

Half tons aren’t real trucks?

Towing under rating is just boring.
So let's keep it interesting, the over rating pic shoud be in bdl thread.

This should be interesting.
Gunna go hunt a pic of my yard mule.

Is the point of this thread saying "if everything is in spec then it isnt a big dumb load"

Yeah we know

Each axle weight in spec, but exceeding GCVWR or “tow rating”. Half tons with big-ass campers or whatever, maybe a little light on tongue weight percentage but still 800-1000# on the tongue. Things like that.

greatly depends.

my give'r is a lot more lenient for something that's only ever going to see 35mph on a county road, than something traveling down the highway at 75.

20 y/o dually are rated the same as 2020 half ton trucks. Yet I dont see anyone towing 15k of hay behind their ecoboost F150.

ratings dont matter.

That trailer hated life.

How far and how fast did he run? Truly interested on how it pulled it. Did he lock it out in 6th gear and let it sing at 60mph? I cant tell what's going on with the hitch, inertia juice brakes?

It was my poor little trailer... he went to pick it up with his and it blew right through the deck so he was nice enough to not wake me up while he stole my trailer and left his in pieces in my yard.

He pulled it about 150-200 miles and over one of the more hectic but short passes in the area, Hwy 17.
he said it towed fine up to 50 and felt like he was driving a bowl of jello any faster then that.

Yes the trailer has some old surge brakes brakes that mostly work. He said his brakes were smoking and he didn't have much pedal left at the bottom of the grade.

Sold the trailer to another irate today

Could probably go in the overlander thread too.
