The Mountain Bike Thread

Got close to 100 miles on the 80 dollar walmart bike its its been flawless so far. Only way iv found to really wear the dogs energy since he wont reliably fetch enough to get tired

Walmart bikes are as good as $3-400 bike shop bikes from 15 years ago. Nothing wrong with them at all if you don't mind a little tinkering, it's usually just poor assembly

I used a leash the hand end had a latch on and a harness on her. Loop it around the steer tube below the stem and leaving it above the cables. Me and Kona did hundreds of miles this way. Man do I miss her...

You're gonna eat **** when that dog changes directions.
What's up with the Sammy?
I hold onto the outside of the loop, so far any sudden change it just pops out of my hand. 1st few weeks were lil nerve racking but now after 3 months hes got it down pretty good. Its a clean Lil unit. Bone stock besides the spare tire cover that changes with each holiday and season. Im waiting for a 4 sale sign but so far the lady still dailys it

Dogs 'n' bikes!!

Reminds me of one my truly favorite vids:

Cannondale m300, my first "mtb". Lots of lessons learned riding trails.
I won this bike in a workplace commute reduction program.
Wall hanger 30 yrs.
Wheels are close, fresh amazon tires and tubes, wally world seat and grips, cables all cleaned up and working.
Neighbor sez he wants to ride. It is his. They are fresh pregger so he just might. Down the road it goes.
Need to find a new home for the proflex/k2 with a Girvin that's in the attic.

It’s funny how progression works. I remember when V brakes were the hot ****. I had a K2 proflex in the 90’s. Mongoose was a real mountain bike (not Walmart brand) based in Durango Co. and that’s what my friends with more money rode. We thought we were hot **** on those things. Rode our asses off on southern Colorado northern New Mexico trails before those trails were famous.

I just got my Jamis Komodo back. This thing is a POS by today’s standards. And it’s a spaceship compared my ol K2.

I just want to know what’s bike shop is doing for $300. Pretty sure that’s how much it cost have them top the tires off anymore. Maybe it’s cause I live in a ridiculous tourist town, but I’m not exactly sure what I could get for that price.

If you like the bike, it’s worth every dime you put into it.
Front and rear Shimano Disc Brakes with new discs. Front and rear shifters. All new cables and cable housings. Installed and tuned. Washed the bike and made it look as new as it’s ever going to again. $287 out the door.

Damn, is that the root beer colored 36? Those were pimp back in the day
That’s the one. Still is pimp. Limit the travel to 140 mm for climbing and let it eat at 180 mm travel for bombing. The cycle shop must’ve been messing with it to see if it still worked because they had it scrunched down when I got it back. Yep, still works like a champ.

Haven't done a thing to the Blur since early December besides ride it. I gotta say I still absolutely love this thing. It needed some love though. NX derailleur was just worn out, cassette was missing a tooth, cable might as well get changed so yeah. Full T90 group went on and switched to wide offset with 165 cranks. First ride was today and outside a twist of the cable adjuster after a bit it's been flawless. Wider width and shorter cranks definitely feel a bit more comfortable.

Raced the marinduro this weekend, in the bike class. I got smoked, but it was rad to ride those trails. They had a jump set up off the tamarancho sign.

Sunday my son fully started sending this little pallet jump.

Found my new favorite chunky trail. Johnson Motorway from Rocky Peak in Simi to the Mansions in Chatsworth. Fast and chunky enough to keep you on your toes and make you think about line choice, but without the scary "I almost died there" sections like Suicide in Oak Park. 2.3 miles long with 906 ft of total drop. Saturday was my third time down. When I did it with the long loop from my door it was 28.4 miles with 3600 ft elevation. Yesterdays was only 22 miles as I parked closer to one of the other trail heads.

All your guys saddle talk jinxed me and my Ergon SM-E cracked. I reached out for warrantee, but no response yet.

I feel like a chump when I roll into the parking lot with my $5 goodwill find trunk mount 3 bike sport rack... Haha! Then I remember how much I saved with my $5 rack and $1k bike.

Ha, I stuff my bike in a car that cost less than the bike. I get some looks for sure.

Rack idea that’s been in my head for a while. Finally turned it into metal and used it last night

So before the bike is loaded, the upper aluminum spacer is rotated towards the back, then you drop the tire in and it goes over center to lock in? Then to release you pull the bottom red lever?

That is how I saw it as well. The longer upper would weight it back naturally. As well as when you pulled it out. The lever pushes it forward to apply pressure. Simple and trick.

Pretty much

Yep you got it. You pull the lever back and over that bolt head to lock it in
