If you need more clearance I'd definitely do some sort of vent links before moving the mounting points up.
Personally, I wouldn’t bend good links when he is gonna use them with the rear steer.

Well for one, he can't just bend what he has, they'd be too short

And I'd assume he'd be stretching the wb with going way bigger in tire size?
 
I don't like the idea either, but I figured it's less ******ed than moving the tabs up on the chassis. :laughing:

That would also make a lip that would hang up when trying to back off something.
 
Completely off the topic of the build thread, but we lucked into a Buffalo Trace tour reservation 2 hours prior to showing up. :smokin:

That tour was cool as hell. Interesting to see the whole process and experience that environment.

None of these are unique for locals in the south, but in Pennsylvania they’re unheard of.
 
Apparently I’m the only one who didn’t know Odyssey Extreme batteries were junk. Bought mine in March 2025, and it died first day in Harlan.

We ran to Advance Auto and found a comparably sized Die Hard and used fuel line and electrical tape to secure it in. It works now.

Really pissed I bought, basically, a $258 boat anchor.

I get it's a pain, but you should be able to get it replaced, so it's not just money down the drain.

Nope. Just a bad cell in a garbage battery.

Also, yes, I can get it replaced, but now I get to wheel with it, wondering when it will leave me stranded again.

Swap it and sell it

Could be any brand of any battery. This is why I put $70 Walmart battery's in my Ford. Maybe they're junk, but at least it's less than $150 vs $5-600 for fancy batteries.

Just about the easiest problem to solve on the trail BTW so no need to loose sleep over it.

It was. Just annoying. One dude had a jump pack which was handy when I stalled in some bad situations.
 
Knocked out a lot of stuff today. Camera is still broken, so pics look like they’re from 1993. Oh well.

Rear storage changed and center console for new wiring job.

Super stoked on the re-wiring. Going to allow me to run a rearview mirror, which will let me see my rear pinion and the buggy behind me.

Plan is to move everything down from the roof to the console. Big mistake putting it up there. Not only does it add a ton of unnecessary weight, it’s also a nightmare when an allen key strips on the trail and you can’t pull your roof off to check grounds. This happened in Harlan.

Plus, I want to run a rearview mirror. The gauges are occupying that space currently.

So obviously the fans will have wires running up to them, but this will simplify my current set up drastically. Plan is to try and wire as much as I can under the dog box, so fuse panel to switch panel will be contained to the dog box. Then wire in one large plug, that would allow me to easily disconnect it for removal. For instance if I needed to swap batteries on the trail, or when/if I have to pull the transmission, etc.

It’ll basically be the same layout with wiring, but shorter runs, and hopefully far more condensed and organized.

Also moving the head lights down to the steering arms and welding them on there. So, going to be a big project tearing up the miles of tape I wrapped. Oh well…

I mean, I already only have one small fuse block and one small relay. Really no reason to go that route. I technically only have 5 switches. That’s it.

My winch switches would be separate anyways so I could reach them.
 
Explain that to me like I’m a 3rd grader. As my electrical knowledge is about that.

I can only assume you’re talking Switch Pros kind of wiring? Anything that I can use to simplify/idiot proof my trail rig and 4800 build I’m all ears.
The more I dig into switch pros the more I get frustrated. If i switch over I'd like to completely eliminate the need for any other switches / relays. The newer ones finally allow for enough external inputs to run the fans off of the ecm, and fuel pump, but then I read that I cannot use it to trigger my winch solenoids, and that makes me wonder if it will not also trigger rear steer solenoids. I'm real close to rewiring my buggy to clean up some changes I have made over the last 5 years and replace some ****ty wire that I installed not know what it was, one of these seems like a simple way to consolidate everything into one spot but then you find out it won't do everything and I'm right back to my bussman relay box and building my own again.
