This is the 2.0 of my old buggy. Some have followed the old build. The original was a sami frame, HREW tube chassis welded to it, 1.3L with a Harley carb, 37s, Toyota axles, 5 speed manual, and a 6.5 sami case.

It went through quite a few changes... 1.6 swap, auto, steering 9s, propane turbo, and 42s. The cage was revamped 4 or 5 times as well.

I wanted a smaller, safer chassis. I back flipped the one buggy twice, and bent some stuff up. I thought about fixing it, but I’ve been wanting a new chassis for some time now. The old chassis was the first one I ever made, so I learned a lot. Like most people, I learned what not to do.

This was what I ended up with at the end of the night. It was a sad day seeing the ole girl torn down.

Started to lay shit out, seeing what fits. I wanted this buggy low, so I paid attention to the over all skid, to roof hight.

Always select "fullsize" even if it looks odd in the preview

for some reason if you insert a picture and then "delete it" from the post to put it somewhere else, it will give it a duplicate "attachment" i dunno why.

you'd have to delete the original and the duplicate then reupload them if you want to move one around.

personally i find the easiest thing to do is to upload all the pictures, insert them with like 3 or 5 spaces between them, then type in the blank space and post that way. 5 images per post

thanks for posting your build :)

The seat bolts are 6 inches off the skid plate. I’m 6’1, so I wanted ample head room, but still wanna keep the bitch slim and low.

My buddy Spooner actually helped me out with this build, but he really helped with the original build. He’d tell his girlfriend to piss off and he’d stay at my house all weekend fabbin. My girlfriend didn’t make any engine noises while she was sitting with him. Disappointing...

All the other builds popping up has inspired me. 😁 I think I have the picture issue figured out. I didn’t have that issue when I posted the samurai build in the Suzuki section, but I’m also a little dumb. Haha. Most likely operator error.

He’s some of the link mounts. Nothing fancy. Just strong and simple.

Had the girlfriend dismounting bead rings so I could flip the tires. The inside sidewalls were still fresh.

This was the rear D300 mount. Doubles as a skid plate brace too. I still like being able to drop the trans and case from under the buggy.

Shock mounts. I’m running 2.5 14” shocks front and rear. 2.0s would be a lot easier to package, since they’re shorter. I like 2.5s more though, so I sacrificed stoke.

I did not wanna run shock hoops either. But that would have made life a lot easier. They ended up fitting just fine. And if I really wanna go to 16s, ADS makes short bodied shocks. I’m a cheap fucker though. Ballin on a budget!

Another thing was, I had to run the shocks inside the chassis. I cringe when I see shocks mounted outside the chassis. That shit does not fly in Arizona.

Went with a different turbo this time around. It’s a little smaller, and spools quicker. I have it tuned WAY down right now. It’s only running 6psi. So far it’s been enough. 10psi is no problem, but if I don’t need it, less boost adds some reliability.

I also run two pedals, left pedal is rear brakes, right is front. They work well for front/rear digs. I can easily press both pedals too, for normal braking. I also made the pedals longer, for more braking power. It worked like a charm.

This radiator came out of a VW. It was short, and wide. It fit well, and had room to add two fans. I run the fans on two different switches. The likely hood of both fans systems failing at once is low. If one fucks up, I’ll have a back up. Better than nothing!

Random things. I machined a new column to extend it. Basically, cut, press fit new extension, and weld it back together. Worked better than my old setup, which can be seen in some of the other photos.

Always gotta rep my state too.

Made up a simple dash, and did ball joint eliminators up front. From here, it’s pretty much done. Been wheeling the shit out of it. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

wow, cool build. What does this thing weigh? I love the minumlaist setup, Wouldnt fly here on the east coast...too much mud and sticks etc. I would be poked and covered in mud at the end of a day. But I love it!

It would be just fine, just accept the mud coverage 😋
