Crawler/Broverlander YJ Buildup

Fixed up some smaller things in the floor, got the heater working, put the street tires back on, and got this thing ready for winter. Hopefully it snows enough to do some day trips :smokin:

Fixing a bunch of small stuff that’s been adding up.
1. The power steering line got loosened at uwharrie and the pump burnt the fluid. I did a redneck flush on the system (starting it with one of the hoses off and topping it off). Worked great.
2. I’ve been fighting some steering issues and finally discovered what’s been causing it, and de-lengthened the bolt on the steering ram.

3. Went down a drop off at the ranch and broke a clip off the top of the intake manifold. The filler bolt will work for now. However, I’ve got another stock manifold lined up for it and it will get replaced soon,

4. Oil change.

5. I didn’t retorque the transmission mount and the bolts fell out of it mid weekend. I dropped the skid and drilled the holes out to make room for a bigger fine thread through bolt. I’d really like to see it come loose again…

Another awesome weekend at GER and watching the rock bouncers, and I'll update the heep part of this later on.

Quite the mess getting my brother and his friends ready for this trip since they run around with their heads cutoff during the week. The RV was dropped off to get the AC fixed and the fixed AC failed after driving it home Thursday night. They decided to run 2 portable AC units in there with 5 gallon buckets as condensation tanks. It worked well, but was still 80* in the midday. We emptied over 10 gallons of water from this one unit.

We leave out Friday morning and this RV is barely keeping 65 mph on the flats. We start up some of the mountains and got down to 30 MPH really quick. Here it is being passed by a log truck. Also, we passed the Great Race on this trip and happened to see a ton of neat cars from DB5's to Boat tail Speedsters, to stock Model T's

And almost there, the RV decided to die on an 8% grade and in a blind corner. I happened to pull off at the top of the hill and meet up with "Scooter" at this shop. He came over and we got to talking about heeps while I was waiting for this camper to make it, since we don't have any cell reception at all. One of his friends stops in and says the camper won't run at all and its 1/2 mile down. So I unload the crawler and head down with a strap and a dream and somehow towed it up to the top. I might have bent my rear springs all the way. Scooter opens the shop up and we had all the tools we needed, including a scanner that narrows it down to a multi cylinder lean situation. I rip the fuel filter off and got a full gasoline facial. :barf:, It was pretty clogged, but also the fuel psi sender was acting funny, so Scooter took the RV owner down to town and got the parts we needed. Great dude and let us hang onto his Motus until we got to GER. I think the RV was boiling over the fuel in the filter as well. I don't know, It did 50MPH all the way home. Black text.

Side note: Scooter wanted us to cut the cats off the exhaust and weld on a piece of 4" tubing. While we greatly appreciated the effort and hospitality he showed us, do be cautious when traveling in these parts. Scooter was a great help to us, just not in the mechanical advice department. :flipoff2:

I'll throw a video in the next post. We wheeled til about midnight on Friday and the rv guy and friend partied until 3 am with some other sxs guys, then one of them went out and got lost trying to find the bathouse and passed out in the sxs until 6 am. Me and my brother went down to the races and got a hood spot Saturday morning.

It's a great show, and If you haven't seen the bouncers, I highly recommend going out to witness them. I sat and talked to Dan Bowman for about 2 hours while helping them get his rig back in drivable shape after he yard sales it. Then helped out some other competitors who got their golf carts stuck trying to recover tools. We wheeled Rubicon trail at lunch time during the intermission, and with all this going on, the deer don't care.

After the comp, we drove the Cherokee 15 minutes from the park to Pirates Cove to go swimming. These are the lower cliffs and they are 25ish feet high. They go up to 80' high. We jumped off the smaller ones.

Night wheeled a bit, Ice-cream hill, and Jackhammer. Someone in a tacoma got in behind us and broke a wheel in half. We sent someone out to get our spare wheel and tire and told him to park somewhere flat to change it. The tacoma drove that thing back to camp.

Last but not least, here is a "street legal" sxs Volkswagen beetle.
