Anyone regret doing a Cummins swap?

How well does Craigslist and Marketplace work up there? I’d buy it for $500. Pull the engine and put it back up for sale for $500 bucks and only be out your labor. That engines going to be a little different than a 6BT that came out of the same year pickup. But not enough different that you can’t use it wherever you want it.
I'd be surprised if I can give the sweeper away.

Weren’t you saying you have to pay to get rid of scrap on Alaska though, how expensive is that? You can find a good runner all day for $1500-2500 in the lower 48.
The dump is taking steel for free, though it's an hour trip.
Plus probably a day to yard out the engine from that shipping crate and chop it up in pieces

18*. When my ppump was gone through I had them pin it at 18*....cause Im a genius
Make for the install a breeze that’s for sure.
035 delivery valves
I’m no 12v Cummins wizard but I ran 7mm DVs and I went back to stock. From what I’ve read, larger DVs make for smokey exhaust. Although I think larger injectors sorta counter that? Keep us posted!

Bingo Bango.

Yanked the “old” PDD 5x.014’s and stuck the new “Powerjet,550hp” guys in. Used the thin washer per discussion with the guys at PDD. They said getting the tip further down will assist with complete burn of that single pilot jet that actuated before the others.

When I fired her up, had a bunch of “dust” shoot out. Last trip was four hours on the highway going 80….and she fuels HEAVY up top (until new injectors).

New guys in with minor headaches. Did have to use the lug nut trick to get a the old injectors out.

The 17 second video is before, the other is after. The before doesn’t even begin to show how much it used to haze.

Did an oil change while I was in there too :)

I've been driving this a lot since my dd 4runner needs an injector.

Been running good.

Did take it out with the camper and little enclosed trailer. Nothing heavy, but enough to make it get warm. Definitely needs a fan.

Anyone else have an idea on a fan that would fit better than stock?

I'm not caught up on this thread but were you able to fit the 2nd gen fan? I think what I did on my K5 (apples to oranges) was took the fan clutch and fan off of the 6.2 diesel and put it on the 2nd gen fan hub. Bolted up if I remember right and got the fan real close to the engine. So close I had to grind a bit off the front of the water pump pulley for clearance.

I have not done anything with the fan since it bit the rad

Still has no fan, It's totally fine as long as I don't idle forever or tow something. But would like to be able to do those things.

Figured I'd throw this in here for the future info. I guess what I did was used the 6.2 Diesel fan on the 2nd gen fan clutch. The blade is 7/8th away from the rad but the clutch itself is closer than that. The 6.2 fan is a smaller diameter than 2nd gen so a lot smaller in the shroud. 12,000 miles and some mild off roading and no contact yet. Even on a flexy frame squarebody.

I think part of my problem is the placement of the fan, it's up really high compared to the shroud. It caught the tank it's self.

That was after I cut like an inch off the end of each blade also.

My confusion is how this swap has supposedly been done a million times, but I can't anything on this.

Johnny Longrifle what fan/fan hub do you run?

I am running the 94-98 P-pump fan and hub. I'm using the original '96 F250 7.3 powerjoke radiator. I modified the upper mounts on the rad to tip it forward as much as possible. I moved my engine back ~1" from the suggested location.

I also cut and lost the bottom half of the OG shroud. I only have the top half there, just to keep from sticking your fingers in the fan.

I took a trip to Phoenix last summer (July) and couldn't keep it cool enough for the A/C to run. Coolant temp never got over 220. This was with a gooseneck with 2 jeeps and about a 100mph headwind at 105°.

Aside from that trip, I have never had any overheat issue.

Can get pics if needed.

That picture posted above is where it started, it didn't stay that close. I also ended up doing what Longrifle did, I moved the upper radiator mount so it wasn't laid back so far.

Another option that was posted in my thread was a pre87 BBC fan, I never tried it, but it worked for others.

What radiator and intercooler are you running in your squarebody?

My plan is to graft the 2nd gen core support into my squarebody core support when I swap the 97 12 valve engine in it. Use the complete 2nd gen cooling stack, rad/shroud/intercooler/condensor. I havent done serious measuring yet to see if it will fit though. It looks like it should work , just gonna use the bottom u shaped section of dodge core support to mount everything to.

That should be a good plan. I used 1st gen Dodge accessories including fan and shroud. 2003 Duramax radiator with matching intercooler that is flipped upside down with one of the nipples cut off and repositioned. I have a Vintage air kit for it that I have not installed but the condenser will have to go behind the intercooler. It has been in operation that way almost 20 years if I count the M1008 that it was in before the K30. It has been so long, I can't remember why I did that way instead of the way you are planning.

I'm running 2nd gen radiator and intercooler.

For my core support I used the factory '84 Chevy core support. I think it works good. Intercooler fits into place in front of radiator really well and just have to cut out a little bit of sheet metal for intercooler and make a thing for the intercooler and rad to sit on. I added to vertical pieces of steel to stiffen up where I cut out and to add little brackets for the intercooler to bolt to.

Only thing I used from the 2nd gen core support was the rubber donuts for either the rad or intercooler sits on. Leaves plenty of room for a condenser in front of the intercooler. Doing it this way you are able to use the 2nd gen intercooler pipes and boots, just have to shorten one pipe. Also get to use factory 2nd gen radiator hoses. And was able to use fan shroud and radiator tank from 2nd gen also.

If I had to do it again I would do it the exact same way. Maybe try to make it look a little cleaner.

I'm running a 6.0 powerstroke van intercooler on my truck. All aluminum, including the end tanks, makes it easy to make custom mounts.

I cut the two ribs out in my crew and put the intercooler right in front of a 454 rad. Works great. I an running a 1st Gen have him that's a little shorter, but it's not needed if you rub a 350 radiator. Had it that way for a few years.

Posting pic to clog the thread up?…..YEPPPPP. Here’s my ****:

Also becuase I’m too lazy to read back through….first gen fan hub? Did we discuss that already? I’ve got a stocker but if I remember right the first gen hub doesn’t push out as far.

Almost makes me want to sell the squarebody for a 78-79 f250 to put the 12 valve into. Almost.

Dont know about the the outside but that truck is clean under the hood.
