2020 Rebuild - Super Party Mobile

front axle all put together. another company that deserves mention is Branik Motorsports. the front brakes and sway bar are from them.
they were a lot of help in specing out the sway bar as I didn't really know where to start.

YES! Front end is coming out killer! Did you already have the dimensions for the branik arms or did the front end just fall into place like that? What's the sway bar OD?

Absolutely love seeing all of the top notch fab work being done on an old fullsize trail rig... theres something right about seeing badass welds near old sheetmetal that just does it for me. :bounce2:

I probably would have been better off building out a production tube chassis but I love my old Blazer. I've had it almost 20 years now and have made countless memories with it. I appreciate the compliments!

thank you! I built the front frame section with the sway bar tube before I knew exactly what parts I was going to use for the sway bar. wheelbase and up travel were set so I knew where the axle would be in relation to the chassis. Branik and Spidertrax had good dimensions online for their sway bar arms. I used those dims when designing the bump stop mounts and anything else I thought might interfere. I ended up buying the 28 spline sway bar kit from Branik with the 15" - 17" arms that I had designed around. the torsion bar is .875". thanks again!
 
these were a hell of a learning experience and took me a long time to finish.
Vince at Burns Stainless was a big help with design and the merge collectors were really nice pieces.
Bill at Woolf Aircraft helped me out with the tubing and bends. he made repeat orders of ones and twos a breeze.
I reverse engineered the exhaust side of the head and had header flanges laser cut from 3/8" 304 stainless.

I was having problems with the 6 rib serpentine belts I was running before. they were fine when new but as soon as they started to wear, or got dirty, or the batteries were low, etc.. they would start squealing. I always had to carry spares. the steering pump belt wasn't as problematic but still not great.
there are a few other benefits but no slippage was the main reason. I like that the belts don't require any tension so less load on brackets and bearings. and they do look cool!

I can imagine that 'little' :laughing: 18° headed 436" sbc likes to rev as well.... :smokin: those belts should definitely stay put better than a traditional V or Serp Belt.

Any idea what kind of power its gonna make?

I forgot RPM - the old belts didn't like that either! basically, if I was having a good time, the belts were not.
the motor made 650 hp on dyno with a carb, maybe a few % better with the multi port EFI
 
Well it takes a hefty alternator to run the super party mobile audio system....

that's right! I'm going from a 150a Powermaster that wasn't quite keeping up to a 240a from Jones Racing. should be more than enough, especially now that the belt won't slip

Little rocks like to wedge themselves in COG belts and **** **** up.
Keep an eye on them.
 
a few more updates.. the steering is all there from the wheel down to the orbital valve.
I want the steering to be as tight as possible but there's always a little play in the splines at the orbital. in the past, I've used grease to try to tighten it up but I don't think that works well for long. this time, I used Loctite retaining compound. it'll probably never come apart now but that's a problem for future me. hopefully that won't be for a long time anyway.

Jerry at Meziere has been super helpful and all the parts I've received from them are exceptional. I'm using their flex plate & starter combo, and water pump.

i do have to kinda chuckle because of the clean fab work, shiny parts and nasty raisin'd ol' cab. completely understand the why, but amusing no the less.

few small updates. I got these sweet valve cover breather fittings from Beck Racing Engines. I used to run a traditional PCV but I'm going to vent to atmosphere instead to keep oil out of the intake if I flip it. also installed the water neck.
