There are a few threads kicking around on the origin of this truck. '82 2WD C20 with 8' bed. Originally a diesel, swapped to an inline Stovebolt 6 somewhere along the way, later stripped and abandoned.

It's at least 2 years down the line and I finally will have a little time to work on it. Along the way I sold off parts I was not interested in - the bed, tailgate, front inner fender panels, front bumper, etc. - the front fenders, hood, and doors were missing when I got it along with many other interior parts missing or destroyed. A couple-few months ago I scored a bunch of SB mechanical parts and a 350 for cheap from a vehicle that had an interior fire.

A couple weeks ago I got it on 4 wheels and tires I got from someone here. (Thanks again!) Dragged it from where it was down to where I can work on it (it's on a friend's property and I used his Gehl to move it).

Now it is sitting on 4 jack stands. First order of business will be to remove the combination of trash and spare parts that are inside the cab. Then strip out all of the remaining wiring.

I will need doors but not planning on replacing the front end sheet metal as I might flat fender it and I have a couple of possibilities for a hood.

Anyway, here's how it sits as of today:

Not much to report. Moved the engine over to where the truck is. Bought a cheapo HEI distributor as the dizzy on the motor got cooked by the fire.

No pix.

Question - the engine is an '86 350 with an electronic Q Jet and a one piece seal. It's got a flex plate as the donor truck was automatic but this is going to be a manual.

What tooth count flywheel do I need? 168?

That depends on the starter. The 168 tooth used offset mounting bolts. I’m sure Newb will tear me up if I’m wrong.

Got a good full day of work on it today.

Got the interior cleaned out and stored the various used parts I've scrounged and will be using,

Removed the entire wiring harness including the fuse block, etc. Pretty much intact, a couple-few connectors have seen better day and two or three are missing. It's up for grabs if anyone wants it.

Got the front seat out. Gonna refoam it myself. I like bench seats.

The interior is 97% stripped. Pressure washed the cab inside and out..

Found some rust. Passenger floor pan has rust perforation just in front of where the seat sits.

Was a little tough seeing under the dash, even with a flashlight, as the truck is facing right towards the sun. The dash is removable, correct? I really never liked the design of the square body's dash and I find it a lot less claustrophobic inside if a flat dash is set closer to the firewall.

Now I suppose I'd have to build a side-to-side mount to support the end of the bracketry that affixes the steering column and pedal assembly. Anyone have experience with this?

I also have questions regarding what I'd like to do at the rear of the frame, but I forgot to take pictures. Next time.
