What's new

YouTube shorts

They're annoying as shit, just like tik tok videos, which I also hate. I'd rather watch one full-length artisan video than watch 10 random YT shorts.

From what I understand, they're encouraged by YT, and YT won't promote channels that don't put up shorts, so if you're a new channel, putting up a ton of shorts helps get you promoted more than others who don't put up shorts.

I don't like them, no video or audio controls, nothing to stop you from blasting your eardrums out because the world sucks at volume control. If, for some strange reason, I want to watch on, I replace the "shorts/" with "watch?v=" to force it to load in the standard player. Video players that don't allow me to adjust the volume before I start the video can suck it and I just don't click play.

Most of the channels I subscribe to are machining channels of some type. Shorts always seem out of place, like they been forced or heavily induced to put one out.

If you don't like them don't watch!
Damn y'll have become a bunch of ol women:laughing:

. . .The point of this thread is for folks to express their opinions of sharts :homer:

You failed to do that

Not true, YT doesn't promote any channels per say, they promote videos to viewers who are likely to click on that video and stay on to watch. Having shorts on your channel doesn't change anything about each videos chance.

However, shorts from every channel get a better shake on the shorts shelf, it's pretty standard for anyone to get 1000+ views on a short without much effort. This exposure helps get eyes on a persons channel which will gain subscribers and give you a better shot at your next video getting recommended to a previous viewer of your shorts.

I create shorts, they're easy to make relative to a full length video (I can usually put one together end to end in an hour), they've gained me hundreds of subscribers, and as of today they are now monetized for anyone in YPP, so I'm game to getting some more pennies from them.

I watch the ones this kid (LVC RC) puts out regularly. He's quite the talented RC monster truck driver and the stunts he can do with his trucks are nothing short of amazing. Most of the clips have real engine sounds dubbed in that sync with what's going on for an extra cool factor.....

Shorts, reels, Tik tok… can’t stand any of it. 99% are just stupid trash that aren’t even funny or entertaining.

Look up the psychology of it all, they give you 9 shit ones on purpose before showing you a popular one because that keeps you scrolling.

It'd be interesting to run this pole on a PlayDoh forum and see how it fares with 11yo kids.

I'll bet there's a 100% split by age.
I don’t think so. From what I see 30+ year olds are into them. Even my in laws love reels.

My kids love tiktok and make me post there. Youtube shorts are monetized now, so I got an email that I can make money on them too, They work all right to bring in younger suibscribers, I think 70% of the people that watch my videos are over the age of 55.
I dont generally watch them at all even though I post them:lmao:

I wonder how long You tube has before it shits the bed and the "influencers" have to find jobs.

I just watch a handful of shows on there. Don't subscribe to anything. Not even sure how that's done on the TV.

I dunno. The average attention span keeps getting shorter. It doesn't surprise me that YT is doing so well.

I'll admit, I don't watch network TV at all; if I turn it on I've got the YT app running. I don't have a paid subscription to YT tho, don't see the need.

Those shorts (and Tikok) where fun for like a week or two. I'm always annoyed when I accidentally hit one of those shorts in yt.

Didnt read past this.

If there are ten people making content and youtube shadow bans or throttles 9 of them they are essentially promoting the last guy.

I don’t know how FB determines which short vids to show, but all the ones it shows me seem to be Asian cam whores all doing the same stupid dance moves to the same stupid music.

I keep telling it to not show me that, but the next day it’s back.

Never watch them, not interested in random short clips at all.

I take it no one that hates the shorts wanders through the bouncing titty thread. Bunch of liars :flipoff2:

i hate having my short vids auto maticly turned in to you tube shorts. i will reforamt them so it is not in you tube short format so they look normal. hate the you tube short

Except for Ryan McBeth (he has a military hardware channel), the rest of the shorts are just clips from shows and movies with crappy music overlays. So yeah, most are just click bait AF.

I'm sure there are other good shorts out there, I just haven't seen it yet.

I watch a lot of them and I hate how it consumes my time. Hell, I’ll even watch them while trying to do other stuff. They are short and they repeat. I’ll click one and then set my phone down to do something and then the same one will play over and over again. I usually get pissed off, pick up my phone and click the next one and then repeat this cycle. I’ve never checked to see of you can turn repeat function off. I hate that they think I am watching it over and over again because I want to. I hate people are getting more views on something I hate.

I hate this technology. 😊 A lot of hate here, I should probably be given a timeout.

If it wasn't for YT shorts, I would have never heard of Theo Von and Bobby Lee.

I think those guys are genuinely retarded and I laugh at their asshatery.

Shorts are also the place I discovered Bill Burr and Yellowstone.

I don't watch any of the above outside of shorts.

I came across one the other day that was so good, I didn't realize it was an rc for a bit

There are no such thing as shadow bans or throttles. It's going to pick the one out of the ten that it thinks the user is most likely to watch, regardless of which content creator it is.
