So I've been thinking really hard about selling my 01 Ram 1500 RCSB Off-Road package and buying this 85 D250 to pull my 95 YJ around. My YJ is still a 2.5L with a D30/8.8 on 35's right now, might go to 37's eventually. So it is still fairly light. The 1500 will pull it, but it doesn't like it. It has a Magnum 318 and 4.10 gears but it's on 35's which doesn't help. This D250 has a stock 318 w/1 barrel carb and 727 right now, so very weak. But I have a built 400 big block and built 727 that I could put in it fairly easily to get it to pull better. The D250 should have heavier duty suspension and of course it has a D60 FF rear in it. Just wish it had a D60 front instead of the 44. I still might need to regear it, as I'm not sure what is in it right now. But its just gonna be used as a work truck and to pull the YJ occassionally to some local parks and local wheeling spots. I'm not planning on taking off across the country with it. Only real important thing I might miss between the 2 trucks is the ice cold ac in my 01.

What do y'all think?

Why not just down size the tires on the 1500? Maybe down to even a 28” tire. Seem like a cheaper and easier solution.

D250 = 2WD 3/4 ton W250 = 4WD 3/4 ton

I would take a V8 D/W over a BR series with a V8 any day of the week. I would also take a D60 over a 9 1/4". Hell, I'd take an 8 1/4" over a 9 1/4". The only disadvantage is the CAD and a few hard to find parts here and there. But you gain real wheel bearings, and a better looking truck.

Also, no 1 barrel carbs on a 318 in a truck. Industrial stationary engines, yes, but not in a vehicle. It is probably a 2280 Holley 2 BBL.

You are correct sir, my bad. I was in a hurry when I posted it earlier. It is a W250, and it is the 2 barrel Holley, but has the single small opening. I too honestly think it would be a better truck for the task at hand. Plus I'm wanting to put the big block and 727 in something other than my D150 that it is in now. I'm wanting to build a 360 Magnum and put it in my D150 with original 4 speed manual.

Well, I've owned the 1500 for almost 2 years now. That's about as long as I keep most vehicles. It has a factory lift being an Off-Road package truck. Comes factory with 32's. I've put a 2" leveling kit on it with the 35's now. So it would look real silly with small tires on it. Definitely would be easier, but as far as cheaper I should actually end up with some money leftover from the sell of my 1500.

Here are a couple of pics of the 1500 just for reference. First pic is the truck when I bought it. I believe those were 31's on it then. Second pic is after I did the leveling kit and 35's
