What's new

Who’s stepping up their EDC?

EDC just means the junk in your pockets. I always have a pocketknife, small flashlight, cash and a bandana on me, for example.

Definitely read banana.

I added a spare mag to my person this morning just because....was quiet going through the city this morning, thankfully.
I start at 5am, so zombie walkers in North Portland is nothing new...just sad that the town I grew up in has been gone for a while, riots or not......

I played rugby in Bend and we went down to overnight in Portland, circa 1994. I had a good time in the city, but even back then you had to watch your back there.

Other than changing out from my Shield to a G17 (compatibility with what the LEO around here carry) and throwing one of my plate carriers into the rig, nothing has changed.

I can't carry at work, so I loaded up everything my lady is comfortable with and left them with her at the house so I could go to work. We also live about 8 hours away from the nearest protest so I don't think we have much to be concerned about. Although the chances are low, it's never zero.

Somebody in SLC already showed up with a bow and arrow, I patiently await the fool who rolls through one of these things with a half dozen smooth bore flint locks.

"not a firearm" but you don't need much for accuracy when everything is happening at swords length. oh, there are several people who have been carrying large knives

i cant remember where it happened now:homer: but theres a video clip going around of some guy that got beat by the mob because he had a bow and arrow or sword

he was out to protect stores or stop the looting whatever

FAWK THAT!

big ol mob? 30 rounders all day, primary and secondary, stay out of reach of the mob and only let your presence be known when needed

kinda like the bodyguard that recovered a cops AR, that was pretty textbook

Took a 3-day NRA pistol instructors course over the weekend, and there were several private security contractors in the class. As soon as Governor Douchy declared the 8pm curfew, (after Friday and Saturday riots/looting), these guys phones started blowing up and we had to rush through the last module of the class so they could get back to their clients and crews.

To answer the question, my "load-out" hasn't changed. You should always be prepared for this type of shit, sometimes you don't get a weeks worth of buildup like we did here. But honestly I am not in a position to be in harms way, as far as the protesters n' shit goes, so I'm just going about my day and night as usual.

The sheeple that didn't buy ammo when it was cheap, tough shit. The sheeple that didn't buy AR's when they were cheap, fuck-em. The people that didn't get training before Covid, dumbasses. The familys that didn't have a plan for home/family defense before the riots hopefully will have one before it's too late. Same old story. The only exception is I sold a pistol and an AR to the guy that works with me in AZ. He's in his mid-sixties and a Vietnam Marine Vet, we met at a gun range and with some simple instruction he was shooting very good, not just acceptable groups, he's got a good head on his shoulders, and I wanted to do it as a thank you for all his hard work. I didn't sell them cheap, but probably below market value, and he couldn't find what he wanted in stock anyway, so he got the firearms, ammo, mags, holster, cleaning/lube kit, etc. Everything he needed right off the bat. there's a very short list of people that I would do that for.

I live in white BFE, so no. There was probably a couple libs that smell like cat piss protesting at the city park, but no one pays them any attention.

Yes, I started carrying an extra mag and I changed out my edc to my Glock. Little bit bulkier but hits harder and I got the mags loaded with corbon powrballs for feeding reliability.

Settle down you gun hugging basket of deplorables. Uncle Joe will will soon be the HNIC and will make sure all my homies are safe in my grasp!

Damn Joe, that was uncharacteristically coherent. Why do you come across like such a dumbfuck creeper on tv?:flipoff2::flipoff2:

lol. all glocks suck. but ive always had really good luck with corbon. not one misfeed with em. whats hst? hydrashok?

Yeah right. I have 7 glocks and they all feel and operate the same, my Gen5 G34 has a better trigger than the rest, but they've all been stone reliable shooting FMJ's or Gold Dots. Did however shoot a Gen4 G34 over the weekend and the trigger sucked, it was nothing like any of my Gen3 pistols, but I'm convinced there's something wrong with it.

I spent an hour or so stuffing every mag I own a few days after the corona lockdown started. Moved several boxes of ammo closer to hand tha. Their normal storage area as well in all calibers. Thankfully I’m in an area that really shouldn’t ever be dragged into the madness. Top of a very big hill with only 2 access streets in a sleepy neighborhood. Still, wife thought I was paranoid but I went for it anyway.

I don't personally own any Glocks, but where I work all the hand guns are Glocks in 40 or 9mm. The students we train have put tens of thousands of rounds through them with very good reliability. I won't every say they are junk, I think are are great hand guns. I just prefer S&W:flipoff2:

ETA, my EDC hasn't changed in years....still the same Bench Made Griptillian

It is a 9mm+p bonded holowpoint, loaded and designed for LEO and defense department use. However you can get it as a 'civilian' too, it is the same round carried by almost every WA state LEO, most the local PD, and the state patrol.

As to all glocks suck, I am no glock fanboy BUT...they work, well. I still like my M&P 2.0 better (I have 4) but the 4 glocks I have (all 17's) all work flawlessly too. Only gun I bought, hated, and sold was the sig 365, what a huge pile of SHIT that fucking thing was. I would take a Hi-point before I put my hands on another sig.

Generally agree when it comes to carrying something regardless of the current environment. However, during normal times, living in a non gang heavy locale, you have to weigh the risks and benefits of what you actually have with you. Most of the time, the risk of having a long gun stolen out of a truck or becoming a projectile during an accident is higher than the risk of needing it.

Sure, you could lock it up with a cable, but it then becomes basically useless for a defensive scenario. I haven’t seen anything along the lines of what I’d consider ideal for vehicle carry of an AR, but I have some things in mind I may try to produce.

Same deal with a pistol, I basically carry 24/7 when I’m out of the house, though it typically stays in the door pocket of my vehicle when I’m at my shop. It’s on 5 acres down a 300 yd gravel drive and there’s always some weapon at hand. The risk of being “made” in a non-permissive environment because I’m carrying a full sized combat pistol and 2 spare mags outweighs the risk of a subcompact single stack 9mm not being “enough” to solve potential problems.

Completely agree when when it comes to having what is necessary on hand. We’ve had years of time with a great economy (meaning excess $ in people’s pockets) and super cheap AR’s, ammo, etc. I don’t have a decade’s worth of “let’s go shoot 500 rounds this weekend just for fun” in the safe, but I’ve got enough to last a good while.

I have a Robinson XCR/ACOG that is in a sling pack that looks like it's for a small snowboard or skateboard and the back is black, so it blends in with the all black interior of my truck. I'm not away from it long enough to be a concern, and if I'm staying in a hotel, I just check in and then go back to the truck and go back through a door that doesn't go past the front desk, (Mostly Marriotts). The gun has one mag in, but not chambered, and two more in pack, (1 Golddot 64g, and 1 62g green tip for shooting through car doors or whatnot). Fullsize 9mm in center console with two extra mags loaded with Speer Golddots, and two extra mags for my G43 carry. Never had to use any of this stuff in anger and hope to keep it that way.

I will take larger wound cavity and more penetration over "good enough" any day of the week. A +p round like the HST is made to impart more of its kinetic energy vs a FMJ.

FMJ has its place, range ammo.

Quite a few companies make instant access safe boxes for trucks/under seat, and work quite well at that. No one is going to break in qucik and grab your AR, and yet you can get it in under 5-10 seconds.

I am taking one now, and working on a way to mold it in under the rear seat of a forester (Already have one in the Ram and the jeep)

I've always been uneasy leaving a firearm in the vehicle. And that's just a sidearm. Nevermind a rifle.
