Who have the coolest work/shop truck? Post pics!

u right

i was wondering if i had already posted in this thread. haha.

yeah 502ho and i still haven't got around to replacing the tbi stuff. kinda dragging my feet because there is a nice '95 crew cab truck i'm thinking of buying. and if i get the crew cab i'll probably put this 502 in it, and dump a bunch of money into it. make it my dream work/play truck.

Hell yeah it is

Details?

Not a vw guy at all, but can certainly appreciate it :smokin:

Short VW Dub Bus, lol  Same on the VW stuff.

Brian E runs Type-E motorsports in his spare time from working at the gun shop. Used to be part of Twisted Customs back in the day. Now he does bolt on drop kits, brake upgrades, and incrediable bad ass VW engines. He drive that daily and does alot of scrap yard and other runs with it.

Nice!
I'm not a vw geek, did it start as a bus or a truck? Did he shorten it? Vw drive train or engine swap?

Very cool look

Fully VW drivetrain with his drop kit, that's about all I really know for sure about it. I don't think he shortened it but I should find out more info on it next time I talk to him.

He has a full bus that he takes on family road trips.

Dont see to many chevy crew cabs from that era

the one i'm thinking of buying, i'd auctually be buying back....
its the second truck i had when i started on my own, and a retired guy that likes fixing things up told me i had to sell it to him. so when it quit on me again, i was mad and called him to take it (i think it was only a fuel pump.... i wasn't having a good day) now years later he said he's ready to sell it. it'll be a very fair price i know, i might have to.

this is when i had the truck. its a 95 or 96 454tbi nv4500 5sp , c3500. i'd really like the 502 in this truck putting out the power its intended to.
had a lift gate that was enough to lift cars and tow the too.

i'm really thinking i wan this truck back, even want to do the original style mirrors. we'll see if it works out.
i really like these trucks, allot i hate, but always wanted to do one right. good enough i wouldn't want to buy a new truck.

deets on the bgtl bfc (big fucking crane)?

It's a bgtl 04 1500 hemi that was built by some people I know years ago, it was actually really well built, and has great geometry for being tall. D60 front with 4.88s, free spin kit, 35spl stuff, 16" coil overs, hydro assist, cage radius arms, Deaver rear leafs, 11.5" rear, etc
I wound up on a trail ride with it and talked a little shit that that guy was going to hold us up all day. Nope, he drove it like a stolen yj:laughing:

Wound up working with the guy 6mo later and told him I'd underestimated him:laughing:

Got sold to a Co worker and flipped. I bought it back for salvage value and pieced it back together, sold off the 41s for 37 and tried to lower it. Tried to sell it, but with a salvage title in 2013, no takers. Only has 72k on it.

I wanted a crane on a truck to help scrap cars, but didn't want it on the diesels because it'd keep me from using a 5th or gn

So I built a bed with torch bottles, toolboxes and a 3200lb auto crane, 11' boom

Was pretty handy, but now I've got land and forklifts and a shop, so I don't really need to be mobile.

I need to break it back down and try to make it lower, but everything that was fabbed to make it tall, wound up making it really hard to lower again:laughing:

Knuckles cut and turned, the steering knuckles are setup for high steer etc.
Probably my best move would be a pair of super duty axles on 35s and just use it as a low mileage 3/4t gasser

it's sick! I say leave it. a bgtl truck is cool to have around. I have a 97 chevy in the works for a too tall lift on 38s

but I want that size crane for my 70 highboy, any idea where it came from? I don't want the dinky little harbor freight one and don't want to go full on gin pole truck with it either. I just sold my tractor that really only got used when I needed to move heavy shit, so this would be a practical replacement

That's "autocrane" 3200lb max, 2 piece manual extending boom, some were 3 piece and longer reach, some were power extend

it is battery over hydraulic, with the power pack mounted on the crane, so 4 bolts and a heavy 12v lead they've the middle and it comes off

They run $1500-3500 used

To do it all over again, I'd prefer a smaller crane that mounts in the corner of the bed that can be unpinned and pulled out, and not be carrying 700lbs worth of crane around on the right rear corner all the time:homer:

I could see putting the crane on a yard dog and putting the pickup back on the road as a milder truck, but times change:laughing:

Not sure how I missed this thread before. Not that I think this is super cool but I got it 20+ years ago when I had 2 kids at home and I don't get rid of much. Have a liftgate on a receiver hitch for it that can be put on or off fairly easy too.
Pics are like 2 years old.

My junk, Underpowered 7.3L at 170 HP and a 3 speed auto. It has been sitting for a few years. Turning it into a OTR service truck for a few our Son's friends.
There should be a thread here on it soon as we try to add some injectors and other bits to get 350HP. Loaded ddow it was 19800 loaded with industrial maintenance tools and boiler tube repair equipment. I do not think adding OTR tire and brake stuff is gonna lighten it up.
after i get it running well and refresh a few things It's getting Rustoleum grey, 11" Sleeper fairings', custom steps and a traditional bumper.

be gentle with the pedal
I plan to be. I need to start looking casually into an EGT gauge that has an adjustable output. I actually have an old school Autometer Shift light that I want to mount, 40 years of mental conditioning to that fucker is either gonna make me get outta the gas or try to bang the shifter forward into the next gear:laughing:. It's a juice brake truck so i'm not keen on running faster than 80 and 85 with room. I need that extra 1000 (Ford) RPM to get there with the low pros on it now.
We have run 77 on flat ground and that is actually fine. It is the slightest hint of a hill that causes the truck to slow down. Its future home will be in the mountains.

There is a lot of rigging going on there. Like a sailing ship, but with chains. What's the pile in the background?
