What's new

When will Gen X step up to POTUS?

By law you are obligated to pay taxes, incl SS. However, as a citizen, you are also obligated to support any reduction and limitation of tax obligations.

Bitchin about paying taxes while not doing what you can to get them eliminated is just childish.
It's also incredibly stupid, as a whole bunch here have shown.:flipoff2:

In a word, BULLSHIT. COTUS grants congress the right to levy taxes. Face facts, you have zero clue WTF you're yammering about.

In the United States, Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress the power to "lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States.

Taxes are "legalized" theft.

meh. sounds alot like progressives redefining language.

If you and 9 friends pooled money to buy a hunting cabin and split all fees/costs evenly, would you suddenly decide that your friends were stealing from you and refuse to pay your share?

What if your dad did that kind of deal and you ended up getting it passed to you. Still think it is theft?

I always chuckle at that argument. Its just theft because you don't want to pay it.

But how do you fund the most basic of services without it? I get it that most of the .gov services are extremely bloated and of little use to productive tax paying citizens, but there are a few things like fire or weights and measures, things you never think of, but someone has to set a standard and make sure others are abiding, that you use everyday.

Yeah, the military industrial complex is way to large. So lets eliminate it. So you going to spend all day patrolling the border of your plot to keep china out? That sounds real productive. It would be better to spend a little with your neighbors and hire someone to do that.

Your house is on fire, you just gonna let it burn since there are no taxes and consequently no fire dept? Surely a private company could do fire depts better than the .gov, but is it no longer theft when you have to pay a private company?

I don't like paying taxes either.

We are so freaking far from reducing the gov (and the taxes as such) to the point of being 'down to the basics' that I would be excited to have my money stolen just for that stuff.

This is probably just utopia world stuff but here we go: If you didn't pay taxes, and got all your money instead, you might feel more inclined to donate your time/money to areas you thought could use attention and improvement. If fire services were important to you, you would give your city money to buy a new truck, or to hire a fire fighter, or to volunteer your time as a fire fighter, and petition for others to do the same.

:homer:

Choice is the difference.

Fire dept is a great example- it's forced insurance against a fire. It is no longer theft when you have the choice not to pay, if you don't want the service.

You a big fan of Obamacare, too?

Next do the argument about roads and how without taxes we wouldn’t have them.

So why don't you move to a country that doesn't have taxes, or roads? Its your life, apparently you choose to have your money taken from you?

It doesn't change what they are.

Interesting that I never said I wouldn't pay for basic services.

The difference is they aren't using the threat of violence and those are voluntary agreements, taxation is the opposite of that.

This last page is a perfect example why these old mother fuckers entrenched in the "it's always been that way" and "just move if you don't like it" need to die off soon in order to reverse course of the country

I was think8ng about running for office…not GenX, born in 84’, but then I was reminded if you’re not part of the establishment they will DESTROY you.

School boards, city council and county seat….

Do it there.

Do you know the difference between “giving” and “taking?”

Didn’t think so.

Disagree. Really no different than you being financially responsible for your dad's agreement. Only the taxes were voted or accepted by generations ago. I am not an "it's always been that way" or "just move if you don't like it" person. I am saying you have as much responsibility to get involved and fix it if you think it is wrong as your forefathers did when they put that shit in place. Quit talkin like some overlord is extorting money from you, when in fact you are essentially doing to yourself. If you think all this gov infrastructure and cost is just from Boomers and once they are dead it will turn around, you are foolin yourself. We have plenty of freeloaders in younger generations who have been indoctrinated to believe the gov is there to take care of them. The Boomers were at least taught different and found it easier to just spend money to solve all problems, so big fault on them. Those younger freeloader types, it isnt all thier fault, but we (collectively) are going to have to deal with em. That involves people with logic, financial understanding and common sense to take a deep breath and participate in the government (and media, and education, etc) instead of running away from it. Not bitch and moan and claim some status free of responsibility in the situation. It aint a "they did it, not me" thing. It is a "lookey this pile o shit we are all in together, bout time we start fixin the place up" situation.

So pay the fuggin taxes you are responsible for, and displace the progressive clowns that are pushing things that way. Get gov spending lowered and reduce taxes. It will not be easy and it will probably take decades. Or maybe go civil war, but that is a huge gamble and most likely everyone loses greatly.

Sure is convenient how so many fire depts are made up of volunteers and donations while they're the first ones threatened when whichever governing body decides they need more tax $. I don't mind the price, knowing what they'll do when my shit's on fire, but you'd think some of my money could be diverted from gay crosswalks, studying the mating rituals of the buck-toothed earthworm, or Ukraine.

Some keep saying it's voluntary and blah, blah, blah because Congress and the amendments to the Constitution.

I don't recall voting for my Congress member back in 1913 or speaking my mind about the Constitutional amendment.
